But this did not appeaso the angor that hiad been aroused, and consequently Wheeler challengod his foo to fight. The fight, it was mutually ngreed, should be according to the Marquis of Queeusbury tules of the prizo ring. When the angry warriors came in sight of each other their ire grew to immense proportions, aud nothing lees than goro would satisfy either. A reforee was chosen and the men stripped to their shirts. “Time,” cried the referee, and tho madmen flew at each other with their ponderous fists, The firat onset was something terrific. Sparks flew from the very cheeks of the men. Goodman crowded his antagonist with unrelenting fury, and in fifteen sec- onds stretched hum upon the floor, In a fow moments the downed man regained his feet only to fly at his foe. ~ Another fierce struggle ensued. Wheelor was soon crowded out of the ring, but not until both had received hefty blows upon their noses nd eyes. This was done in ten seconds. Thungs looked equally for Wheeler, but his pluck did not falter. When liberated they met again furiously. In thirty sec- onds Wheeler was crowded to the wail by a wild onslauvht of Goodman, who laid on the blows rapidly. Wheeler attempt- ed to return the fighting, but exposed his sido under the punishment, aud was prostrated by Goodman, * Time,” sung out the referee, and the seconds led (e men to the refreshment stands, whero | their shirts wero pinned together and thoy were sponged off. Sold at fifty cents & bottle by C. F. Good- man, REYNOLD'S LOT NO. 10, st in a Once Nated Georgian Revived by a Lawsuit, * GAINESVILLE, Ga. April 20).—A curious story has just been brought out by the yloa | trinl of a case in the White county su- perior court, concerning what was known as land lot No. 10. Benjamin Reynolds, more than fifty years ago, was a typical young South Carolinian, who lived in the Abbeyvills Distriot. He spent $10,000 of patrimony in three years. At last he got so low that he had ouly two negroes and $600 left. About that time the Dallonega gold fever broke out. Rey- nolds and his two slaves plunged into the Blue Ridre. and rambled in the neighborhood of White county, until one day, when they gob iuto a ravine, ho (Reynolds) said: “‘Let’s stop here. One place is as good as another.” The thres men dug s hole and struck a vein which has sinco become famous as Reynold’s vein, They took out the met- al ‘in considerable quantities. Things went along very picely until one day one of Reynold's negroes geve him some im- pudence, He vbruck him; tho blow was ton severe. and the negrodied, Reyn- olds was tried and acquitted. When the panic of 1835 came along Reynolds count- ed his gold, which had been coined at Dahlonega, and his pile amounted to just £30,000. A number of rich men in Ab- baville failed, and Reynolds took his cash and went down to the sherifi’s sale. He bought seventy-five able-bodied negroes, and warched them onfoot iuto Nacoochee Valley, and then commenced work in earnest. With these men he pressed his business, forgetting the follies of his youth, and became thoroughly engrossed in the search of yellow dust. In a few years Reynolds had taken out $600,000, and, after living many years sn honored and respected citizen, died, leaving an estate of $260,000. Along with the property thatthe old man had owned and worked was the famous lot No. 10, in which there was much gold He told his children never to be miners, but never to sell lot No. 10, as it was rich, exceedingly rich. He said that some day improved machinery for work- ing gold would be invented, and then they could put the lot in as stock 1 some company. For fifty years the lot has re- mained untouched In the division of the estato this lot fell to the old man's son, H. P. Reynolds, now of Floyd county, who has owned 1t since. When the .mf'. known Goldsmith tax attachments of 1875 <76 were issued the old No, 10 ot o ue in and was sold. Mr. Reynolds began proceedings to recover the property, and on Tuesday last the case went to trial in the White county euperior court, The mine wus ny fists whirled about in the air regard- less of direction, but Goodman got in a fow licks. Wheeler's were badly aimed and bringing his hands back their arms would become interlocked and the seconds had to interfere. In the next struggle Wheeler made a better showing. The crowding to the wall was fiist one way and then the other. One man struck at his man, missed and came near failing. As he passed the other man sirack at him, grazed him and came mnear dislocating his own arm Goodman's sallies were not so fierco as at firat and were further apart. In the third round both clinched and were separated. While in the hands of their scconds Wheeler cried out *‘time” and struggled to get to his mau,but the referee declared that time was not up, and Wheeler walk- up and down the field, chafing for the fray. “Time” was called and Wheeler stepped upon the bloody sands of the arena, thirsting for gore. Gioodman walk- ed quietly out, looking a littlo pale and ovidently moving more in obedience to pride than eagemness to fight. But they got at it, and Wheeler forced the fight- ing. _Unfortunately for Goodmau the seconds wallked off to have a little chat, anh the fight became very hot. The ref- eree secmed slow to speak, bub he had to call “time.” Wheeler, however, got in £0 quick with his glove thav the word was not more than half pronounced, wnd no ono heard it. But on the removal of the aforesaid glove *‘time” came out with a clear 1ing, and the spectators took it up The seconds came back wiping their mouths and parted the men. Goodman was laid on the sofa, and Wheeler walked up and down the floor, eager for time to be called, Soon it came, but the eecond of Goodman came alone, and announced that his principal was satisfied, whereupon Wheeler anuounced himself satisfied, walked over, shook hands with his late antagonist and offcred to serve him in any way. The surgeons took charge of the discomfitted combatant, and the spec- tators, with the victor and the second, walked to the nearest drug store and took tome soda water, Wheeler bore a slight abrasion of the skin upon his face, but Goodman, though vanquished, was scarless, Wheeler says he fought in vindication of his friends. — — Firy Cuicaco, April 80.—Among the build- ings burned in Eoglewood, by the fire this morning was the S8herwood House, s framo structure, through which the flames spread so rapidly that tho guests had to leap from the upper story in their | * night clothes, No loss of life however.
