A Ohat With Several of the Above and Thelr Views in Regard to the Rte- cent Btrike and the Sabse- quent Moves of the Strikers ond Their Friends, A reporter happened ta, meet, ome of the Moulder's Union, whs was present at the “‘grand mass meeting” on Saturday night, and asked hir, what he thought of ittt “Well,” saic he, ‘it was the most disgraceful thing 1 ever witnessed in a moeting called vy workingmen. There was no chance for a fair expression of views, That man Gould, who presided in the chair, is a regular bulldozer and blackguard. T am always in for fair play and if they had let Rosewater talk, and show his wide of the question, instead of brow-beating and choking him off, they would have had a good deal more of my sympathy. His proposition to submit to the acbitration of the president of the In- ternational Printer’s Union, was certainly fair, and tho jeering and sneering of the printers looked as if they had a bad case.” ““What do you think of it now?" asked a reporter of a bricklayer who was n at- tendance at the *‘citizens” meeting. “Well, T must say it looks altogether different from what I thought it did. The way the meeting was conducted by the printers looks as though they were afraid to face the truth. I never saw such blackguardism in any meeting, and when they called Ed. Walsh to champion their cause it was disgusting to all respectabls union mechanics, Why,that man Walsh is a whitewashed acab. He violated his obligation to the Bricklayer's Union, and worked below wages, was kicked out of the Union, and was blackballed a dozen times when he tried to get back. He camo over here from Council Bluffs with the reputation of a bilk and political shyster, and since he has been in Omaha he has shown himself to be a contempti- ble acamp and renegade. When Ed, Walsh and John Quainn have to be called up to blackguard Roaewater to gt up l’:J’lllflly for the printers, they must be hi up for material. That fellow Quinn is & sort of a U, P. informer down in the shops, and does all the sneaking, spying and schoming for that company among the working people. When there’s any trouble outside the U. P. shops amon, the working people, he is always on dec] with his oily tongue and sympathy. But when the U’ P. cuts down wages or the time of the men, do you hear from Quinn ? Why, sure, you must remember how John Quinn and Ed Walsh tried to bamboozle Chas. Whitn sy was arreste.d for steal- Helpleaded not guilty | and the case ¥ as continued, Goor seana Clark, (c0) ored), for robbing one "youglas of $106 *ens held. A lamp lighter was arrestad yesterday for putting out the street lamps, a business foe which he is hired. He was promptly discharged by Judge Benoke. Tha case against John Shannon for fighting was continued. Harry Cassidy, a boy, was arrested and charged with burglary. The case was con- tinued, a— ExtromeTired Feeling. A Iady tells us “‘the first bottle has done my daughter a great deal of good, her food does not distress her now, nor does she suffer from that extreme tired feeling which she did before taking Hood's Sarsaparilla,” A second bottle effected a cure. No other preparation containg such a concentration of vitalizing, enriching, purifying and invigorating properties as Hood's Sarsaparilla. DAN. ALLEN'S BURIAL, His Funeral attended by a arge Con course of His Associates in Life, The funeral of the late Daniel B, Allen, whose death occurred at six o'clock Sat- arday morning, took place, at two p. m, yesterday, from hia late residence on lower Douglas streot. There was a very large attendance, for the circle of his a:quaintances and triends was extremely large and all were anxious to pay a last tribute of respect to his memory, The body, which had been embalmed, was encased in a magnificent casket, on the top of which was a richly engraved silver plate, bearing the name and age of the deceased. The floral emblems, sent in by friends, were aimply exquisite and included some very elaborate designs, the numberand beauty of which were never excelled 1n the oity. Rey. A. F. Sherrill preached the fun- eral discourse at the house and it was at once appropriate and eloquent. The funerat cortege was formed and in- cluded a lino of vehicles extending near- ly half a mile in length, At the grave Rev. Sherrill recited the usual burial service and all that remained mo:;.:l of Dan Allen was committed to earth, NoExperiment. With a majority of people it is no experi. mont that Dr. Hoaskon Cough and 1':;'; Syrup Is a cure for Coughs, Colds, Paius in tho Lungs, Soreness in tho Chest, otc., but for those who doubt, sk your neighbors who have used it orgeta freo sample bottle of Schroter & Becht, the druggists, Rogular size 50 conts and $1.00. Sold to the teade by O, F. Goodman. the working people of the town and sell them out with a bogus workingman's ticket, upon which they put every candi- date for the legislature that was favorable to the U, P.and the monopolies, and these political workingmen shysters man- aged to roll up abour 105 votes in the county out of nearly 6,000. Why I remember how Ed Walsh got a old-headed cane presented to him at Turner hall by John Quinn, with a fine speech, and the money to buy this cane was taken from contributions to the relief of starving workingmen, who were on a strike at the dump. Give us a rest on Johe Quinn and Ed Walsh among labor- ing men,” Meeting Mr. Sam Reese, one of the leading job printers, upon the street, a reporter said: ‘‘Mr. Reeso you was pre- sent at the meeting Saturaay night, what did you think of it?" “‘Yes, I was there from beginning to end, It wasn't very creditable to the rinters who tried to bully and browbeat ewater when he tried to make a fair statement. In my opinion the printers overeached themselves when they struck. Some of them say itsis not a strike but a walkout but it is all the same. I claim to know as much about printers’ uu§s #nd printers’ rights as any man in Omaha. I learned my trade and was a member of typographical unions for years, Workur a8 & *‘comp’ on some of the leading E.P". in the country, in- cluding the Chicago Tribune. The prin- ters atruck - before they had called a meetin, of the union and their whole proceedings are irregulas They can't *‘rat” I'us Ber office and have no_ right to keep Union printors from working there. As to the type, I will put up 8100 to $10 that the bourgeois of Tun BEer is above standard, and will leave it to competent and disinterested authorities for a decision, Tur Bee type may be leaner than The Republican's,but it is bourgeois and above standard, and should be measured as bourgeois, 1 have taken pains to measure and compare it myself. and know what I am talking about. The next man the reporter met was a merchant who happened into the city hall a8 he was going home Saturday night. *“What do you think of the proceedings and resolutions to boycott Tug Brxi” “‘I haven't much interest, personally, in this matter, but the priuters owmufy could have got my sympathy much quicker by fair dealipg than by ‘slinging mud at their employers, for whom they expect to work again, The whole thing looked as if they had gathe: the most foul-mouthed black guards in town to fling mud at Rosewater. I notice that the workiog people in Omaha always call upon Tue Bee when they get into trouble anywhere and the paper has always stood by them, even when the merchants, who patronize Tus Ber have felt that the workingmen were wrong, As a fact, Tux Bre has been the only paper in Omaha which bas taken the workingmen's side, ~whether they worked in smelting works, the U, P. shops, on the dump or in the streets, As to boycotting Tus Bre, it amounts to nothing. We advertise where it does us the most good and we will have to patronize Tu even where we don't agree with it." e — Ir 16 & fact that no medical work has ever hiad the sale equalled by * The Science of Life, or, Belf-Preservation,” uor any book of kind sines the publication of Uncle To Evorybody has In police court yesterdsy two dis- turbers of the peace were fined §5 and costs each, and both were sent to jail in _Two plain Blocumbs were each fined #10 and costs, sud bota were jailed. ——— HAZSL KIRKE, A Rare Dramatic Event at Boyd's Last Night, The *‘creme de la creme” of Omaha soclety greeted the Madison Square company in ‘“Hazel Kirke” at Boyd's opera house last night. The fact that the veteran actor C. W. Couldock was to assuma the role of *‘Dunstan Kirke” and that ‘‘Harel Kirke" trials and joys were to bein the keeping cf that talented young lady, Miss Annie Kussell, was sufficient to draw a liberal patronage from the elite of the ocity. 0. W. Coul- dock's “Dunstan Kirke” has become a household fact, his magnificent rendition of the iron-willed father needs no words of praise from country critics. Mias Russell, as the winsome, loving and pa- thetic “‘Hazel,” won every heart in the theatre. Outaide of the character of “‘Arthur Carrington,” as put on by Mr. J. G. Grahame, the cast is a noble one. Mr. Grahame is decidedly out of place in the role of “‘Lord Travers.” He has not the slightest conception of the lines. The sooner the management fills his e with a man who has an idea of the ring of a gentleman, even much less that of a peer, the better for the reputa- tion of their company. The Fast Mall Traln to Run Diecct into Omaha, In the near future some important changes will take place about the post- office and in the mail service in this city, The partial failure of the fast mail and the new time card to be adopted soon by the Union Pacific railroad have brought them about. STANDARD TIME. On Thursday next the new time card of the Union Pacific railway goes into ef. fect. In addition to the change of the time of arrivals and departures of certain trains from this city standard time, re cently adopted at the meeting of the di- vision superintendents ot the Union Paci- fic railway in this city, will also go into use. When the result of this mecting wis made known to the public through the columns of the Ber it was divined that the city would be forced into adopting it, asall the roads leading out of Omaha would be using it. An important step in that direction was made yesterday. Postmaster Coutant, after deliberating over the matter, has concluded to adopt standard time also. On next Wednesday night at twelve o’clock the hands of the postoffice clock will be turned ahead twenty-four minutes, ttus making is time correspond withthat of the railroads. This will be done to save the annoyance and trouble of continually adding the twenty-four minutes to tho sun time which is now used in the city by every- one except the railroads. When this or- dered change shall go into effect it will be only a question of time Jjas to how long the city can hold out against its adeption THE FAST MAIL THAIN. Postmaster Coutant yesterday received a letter from Seuator Manderson in which also was a communication from F. B. Thompson, superintendent of the railway mail service. Mr. Thompson states his attention has been called by ,the newspa- pers of this clty to the imprractical work. 1gs of the fast mail trains so fur as re- gards Omaha. He continues that as this fast train costs the government nothing additlonal it will be kept in the service. At no distant date, Mr. Thompson says, upon the authority of a prominent C., B. & Q official, that this train will run di- rect into Omaha by way of Pacific Juno- tion, Itsarrlval here will be in time probably for the distribution of the mail in the evening, as the running time be- tween Omaha and Ottumwa will be shortened materially and the delay of transfer at tne Bluffs will be avoided. ———— Horrors of Mineral Poisoning. ‘‘T have been poisoned with Mercury and Potash!” is the talo of thousands who write our physicians in regard to treatment of Blood and Skin diseases, and it wonld seem that what they say must be true, for it is “with one accord.” ~If you have been soned in this way or have any blood or dineaso or cancer, send to us for Treatise on ;Hood and Skin diseases which will be mailed reo, Tns Swirr Sercirio Co,, Drawer 3, Atlanta, | A- W.
