A Vagrant while Under Arrest At tempts to Run, and is Stopped by & Bullet. At about 10 o'clock last night officer Hogan arrested a suspicious looking char- acter near 18th and Jaokson streets. The man had been kept undes for eoveral nights by this policeman, Last evening he was found by Hogan, in the vicinity indicated, prowling around a stoe. Ho was then soen to follow a couple of children. Hogan, suspecting something was wrong, approached him. The officer asked where he was staying. He replied, at the United States hotel under arrost. The policeman started with his man for the city jail, When near the corner of Thirteenth and Harney, the prisoner dealt Hogan in an unguarded moment a teriffic blow on the neck and started to run up Harney to Fourteenth street. The policeman followed in hot pursuit shouting to him to halt, and as he refusod to do so, Ho- gan fired three shots in the direction in which he was running, The last one took effect in the fteeing man's thigh producing a flesh wound. He stopped and cried out to Hogan to stop shooting, and Hogan coming up, walked to the oity jall with the aid of the officer. Dr. Lisenring was sent for. His wounds were dressed shortly afterward. The wounded man refused to give his name, He has been in the city but a short time.
