Pinkerton's Men in the City After a Suspected Criminal. On the Track of the Perpetrator of Big 0., B. & Q. Robbery in Ch- cngo a Short Time Since, Bhortly after the great robbery of the Pacific express company in St. Louis, by Tiller, this crime was duplicated on & somewhat smaller soale in Chicago in the office of the paymaster of the C, B, & Q. railway company, Inopen day and while several clerks were in the office the paymaster’s safo was ROBBED OF TWENTY-BRVEN DOLLARS, Nobody could surmise the manner in which the money could have been stolen. All that could be ascor- tained was that it was gone. The mystery was as unfathomable as that THOUSAND yesterday afternoon nothing of import- ance was donme. An adjournment was taken until this afternoon. This meet- ing has two objects in view. THE FIRST OBJECT in to arrange a time card. It seoms very probable from the statements of these officials that standard time will be adopted by the Union Pacific road. All [other roads now running into Omaha and Council Bluffs are using this time. Should the U. P. to bring it into requisition. When this s the case the hands of time will be turned forward twenty-four minutes and the liyes of @maha’s citizens lengthened by 8o much. | THE SECOND ,OBJECT is to shorten the time as much as possi- ble between Omaha and San Francisco. This is to be brought about not so much by shortening the running time as by making proper conneections between the Union Paciffc and the Cen- tral Pacific at Ogden. An effort will also be made to induce the Central Pacific to surrounding the historical personage of the Man of the Iron Mask. Every at- tempt was made to conceal the crime. It was hoped that silence would give a clue to the guilty parties. Nothing was gained by this. The tireless efforts of tho Chicago detectives to find a thread in_this labarynth of darkness were unavailing. At length the crime was made known to thoe world. Several suepected parties were arrested. Nothing of guilt could be r.r.c;ved against them. On Wednesday WILLIAM A. PINKERTON and two other members of his association arrived in Omaha. It is rumored that others came at the same time, but this statement could not be verified. Pinker- ton was very communicative. His eager- ness to state his business was almost suf- ficient to arouse suspicion. He was on his way, Le said, to Kansas City. On the evening of the day of his arrival he bought a ticket for St. Louis While here Pinkerton spent most of his time in THOSE HAUNTS where men who get money by other than honest means spend ic. His make immediate connection at Oeden with the train which leaves hore at 7:50 p. m. If this is done a delay of ten hours will be avoided. More than this an at- tempt will be made to shorten the time five hours between Omaha and Ogden. LE this all s accomplished the distance between Omaha and San Francisco will be shortened fifteen hours by wayof thess two roads. Should the last object be attained the result will be a fatal blow to passenger travel over the Denver & Rio Grande for San Francisco. The Central Pacific train will then leave for the Gate City two hours before the arrival of the one over the Denver & Rio Grande in Ogden.
