THRICE TESTED. {The Water Wurlfi Again Make a Show- ing of What They Can Do, A Snow Storm on Broadway, Caused By the Falling Spray. The Aldermen Satistied, | Yesterday morning another test of the | water works was given. The two pre- vidus tests were abundantly satisfactory to most of the citizens, but there were some technicalitios and some excuses for | those who wanted to find fault, and so the water works company, which has always declared iteelf willing to make tosts as often and as many times as de- sirod, was asked to give still another showing 80 as to place the matter beyond all chance of a grumble from anyhody. Accordingly the streams were sent up again yesterday forenoon on Broadway. There were no streams put on from the highest points in the city as there was no need of that, the tests there having so far exceeded the requirements that to complain of those or doubt them would make a person ridiculous, The streams yesterday were along Broadway. There was no stream thrown from the hyJrant near The Nonpariel, for that paper, though bawling because the streams were not suffi- cient, - kicked lustily about there being too much water when the sireams were actually playing. It was given a dry spot this time, | . The streams went up to a higher dis- tance even than on any previous . test. City Engincer Tostevin had arrangod ‘‘figure fours,” or whatever they might be called, being simple wooden arrange- ments set on an angle of forty-five de- grees, and stationed at one hundred feet from each steamer, 8o that by sighting over these any citizen could see for him- selt whether the streams went one hun- dred feet into the air or not. Many thus satisfied themselves who could not other- wise have taken any measurement, ex- cept by the mere guess of the eye. The streams were certainly fine ones, and there was heard but one general express- ion, and that one of eatisfactton. _The morning was cold, but there was little air atirring. The streams piercing the air fell from their dizzy heights in the form of spray, au by the time the drops reached the ground they were frozen, making quite a snowstorm, and in the vicinity of the streams the sidowalks re- quired shoveling off after the tests were over. It is suggested that with such water works Council Bluffs can now be rather independent of the weather, and in the winter if there is not enough snow for a sleighing carnival tho works can be turned on and a snow storm made to order. The water works, after showing for a third time its ability to meet there- quired tests, should be allowed a rest. 1t is apparent that the citizens are tired of the deluging of the streets with water, and the fire lads have certainly had their share of work. e ————— Horrors of Mineral Poisoning. ed several months with urcury and Puy‘l:‘w only tomake me worso, Tho Pt o away my a) and gaye = 4YSpepsia, an Ly D A e T rosltonk | R saparillas, ote. Dorsey left for his New Mexican ranch this eve- ning, but before going called upon several of his friends here and urged them to support Logan, This is considered very remarkable in the light of what ocourred at the meeting of the republican national convention committee, There Logan in- troduced a rosolution thanking Ool. Hooker, of Vermont, Dorsey's assistant secretary during the campaign of 1880, for the efficient ssrvice he rendered in securing a ropublican vicstory, but making no mention of Dorsey's sorvices, which were a hundred times more effective than any Hooker rendered. This was intended by Logan and was_ac- ocopted by Dorsey as a censure, and at the time the latter resented it as such, and in his interviews soon after gave Lo- gan soveral large doses of earcasm. It is not that Dorsey loves Logan more, but ho hates Arthur for not stoppiug the star route prosecutions. Logan is very much in nood of means to prosecute his can- vass, and it is understood that Dorsey has iven him pecuniary assistance. Dorsey gn\u frequently said that he would give $100,000 to defeat Arthur, and as he is quite flush with money since ho sold half of his ranch to John B, Alley,it is believed that Logan will enjoy the benofit of soma part of that sum. folf= N 1TTU"RHE Is awT DEWEY & STONE'S, One of the Best and largest Stocks in the United States to select from.
