Col. Z. from Wyoming, was in this clty Thurs- day on his return from the east. He is half owner in two impartant mines in the Sacremento district, Laramie county, 110 miles north of Cheyenne. The miues are known as the Star of the East and the Grand Prize. The ore from these yield 38 ounces of silver, £16 gold and 8 per cent. copper to the ton. The wealth of the district is scarcely known as the diggings have only been worked with the most primitive machinery, The Jolonel’s trip to the east was mainly to interest capitaliats in the ;mines and se- cure first-class_machinery’ to work them thoroughly and systematically, In both of these he has been successful and sev- Swarengen,a well known miner For weeks past a reporter of Tir Ber has overheard various men earnestly con- versing about a new addition to the city of Omaha, called ‘‘Hawthorne.” Having heard 8o much about the place, he became curious to know mere about it, and to gaze upon it with the naked eye, so he called upon an old newspaper man, *one who is always glad to grasp the hand of a scribe, no matter how humble he may be, and inquired if there was not some way by which even a reporter might look at *‘Hawthorne," A. R. Souer, for he was the man visit- ed, kindly volunteered to drive us out to the new addition, and the offer was glad- ly accepted. Seatod in a fino sleigh, be- hind a cracking team and warmly wrap- ped in buffalo robes, we set out at a forty gate up Dedge stroet. A five minutes drive brought us to the property, which is located ten blocks west of the school house, between Dodge and Cass streets. As we stood and looked upon the min- ature garden of Kdem, we became thoroughly convinced that the half had nover been told, and we will not attempt to tell in this freble sketch. The land is beautiful and rolling, while an abundance of natural trees are acattered about so profusely that it would be difficult to erect a residence without first cutting away some of the monarchs of the forest. The trees are all largo and are oak, hickory, ash and elm, and even in the winter they pre- sented a grand and majestic appearance, which spoke of hnpl))ly hours in summer, time spent boneath their far reaching branches, The streets through the addition have been laid out and the lots staked off and they are now being sold very rapidly. eral thousand dollars worth of machinery is now on the way to Wyoming, It is expected that the several mincral districts in tho central portions of the territory will be pretty thoroughly d veloped the presont year. The LRunni Water mines shows up quartz assaying from $2,000 to 83,000 to the ton. Nearly eighty tons of machinery have arrived there, and_is being put in order for apring work. Another important industry will be added to tho territory's wealth in a fow months—the development of the oil fields. The cream of the oil district is owned by the company represented by Messrs. Rogors & Graff, of Omaha. A syn- dicate of Cheyenne capitalists started to contest the rights of the Omahans some weoks ago,but their schemewas nipped in the bud, the general land office refusing a hearing, The Oil company is making every proparation for active work in_the spring, and expect before tho end of 1884 to give the Standard Oil company a lively tusalo in the markets of the west. One of the most important and vital aids to the development of central and northern Wyoming will be the construc- tion this year of 100 miles of the Chey- enne, Black Hills & Pacific railrond. All preliminary arrangements have been made and ground will be broken for the ties within two weeks, if the weather continues moderate. All things considered our neighboring territory seems to be on the threshold of her prosperity, and Omaha will continue supplying her with all the solid and liquid luxuries of life.
