In the purse was just one cent in money and some pieces of ribbons. When Mra. Lindquest had rocovered sufficiently she crioJ for help, and some ers-by assisted her to her home. Her faco was cut somewhat in her fall and ehe was prostrated with fright and from the blow upon her head. The scoundrel who thus assaulted her must have followed her from town, as sho heard him walking behind her, but paid no attention to his movements. The place whers the lady was attacked the spot is a place of business, with its bright gas-lights blazing from the wi dows, and within three hundred feot is an electric lamp, and upon the very cor- ner where the assault was made,is a street lamp “which was sending forth all the light possible from Omaha gas. He would stab a man in the back in the dark. Things have certainly come to a prett; pass when a lady can not walk witl safety upon our principal streets at six o'clock in the evening, Can it be that tho old days of border outlawry are re- turning? It seems as if the citizens of Omaha would be obliged to organize a vigilance committee and dea! with a fow of these loafers, thieves and villfans in a manner such as they richly deserve. — e — The glory o a man is his strength. 1f you ro woskaad. dow theough oXesanivo sbily or by early indiscrotion, Allen’s Brain Food will_ permanently restore all lost vigor, and strongthen all the muscles of Brain and Body. $1; 6 for 85, --All drupvists e ——— PERSONAL, J. Hon. W. J. Connell last night received a telogram from the clerk of tho appel- late court of the city of Chicago that the judgment of the lower court case against the Pennsylvania Central rail- road had been aflirmed. This judgment, which was for $15,000, was rendered travelling over the Pennsylvania Cen- tral road with a through ticket to Wash- ington was put off this company's train by tho conductor. He brought suit for damages against the road in Chicago and a verdict for $15,000 was returned by the jury. This was afterwards set aside by the court as being excessive and a new trial ordered. The jury in the sec- ond trial returned a verdict tor a like amount, The railroad company made a vigorous attempt to have this one set aside but the court refused so to do. The case was then taken up to the ap- pellate court and the judgment for $16,- 000 was yesterday aflirmeg by that tribu- nal, ‘0UT DOWN. The U. P. Snop Laberers Reduced From Ten to Eight Work- ing Hours, Notice was posted in the U. P. shops, with the exception of the moulding and iler-making departments, yesterday, that, until otherwise ordered, the em- ployees would be allowed to work only eight hours per day. This will reduce their wages one-fifth. This order has arisen from the fact that there is not enough work to do to keep up the whole force on full time, and it was deemed better by those in charge to reduee the number of working hours than lay oft a part of those employed. This order will afact fully ninety per cent of the labor- ers in the shops. The amount of work to be done in the shops has of late ma- teat. Referred. From same: That C. W. and A, J. Sl e AMUSEMENTS, Frank Mayo as “Davy Crockett” Last Night at the Opera House A very small audience was present last evening at Boyd's opera house to witness Frank Mayo in his time tried play of “Davy Crockett.” It may have been that the intense cold | .\ kept many people from attending the entertainment, and there may be such a thing as the old play having lost consid- erable of its interest to theatre goers. While the playis a standard one and cannot be beaten as a backwoods play, yet eleven years is a long iime for any play to bo presented before the same audiences each season, and people will not brave the weather on such a night as last night to see a play which they have witnessed time and time again. As for the play itself it was rendered in excellent style, although a lack of lifo was noticeable in the first two acts. “Dayy” was presented as Mayo alono can do it, and as usual was faultless, His leading support, Miss Charlotte Behrens, as “Elinor Vaughn,” was good.
