Special committee appointed to solect school house site in the vicinity of Han- scom park, recommend that the board purchaso the two lots on the northwest corner of Georgia and Woolworth ave- nues, which lots could be bought for $2,100. The report was adopted, and the secre- tary instructed to draw a warrant for that amount whenever a good title to the lots was shown, RESOLUTIONS, By Conoyer: That the president and secretary be authorized to draw a war- rant for $2,406.62 to pay the semi-annual intereat on §50,000 school district bonds. Adopted. By Connoyer: That some suitable person be employed to take the school consus, Adopted. By Parker—That the superintendent of repairs keep a glate in the board rooms and show thereon his daily work and also an account of work done each month. Adopted. A motion was made by Mr, Gibbon that Mr. Potvin be allowed $3,0600 on ac- count, under his contract to erect the school houses on 17th and Leavenworth, and King & Delaware and the school dis- trict be allowed to take possession of them without waiving any rights with re- gard to their acceptance. A motion was made by Mr. Specht that an appeal be taken from the county court, wherein a judlment for $116 was rendered against the school district of Omaha in favor of Mr. Hartigan, Car- ried, A resolution was presented by Mr. Parker that the city council be requested to cause the grade at 30th and Douglas stroets to be established. The Ogalalla Land and Cattle company have just closed another big deal by which they have come into possession of the Bosler herd of cattle which numbers 45,000 head, the purchase price being $1,250,000. The contract between the parties was closed on Saturday last, but the transfer will not thke place until the middle of this month, The Ogalalla Land and Cattle company now ewn and control 100,000 head of stock, over 90,000 of which are cattle, while the balane are horses. Their land interests amd stock ropresents a cash value of $3,000,000, They first purchasél the Paxton and Sheidley herds, which wmbined, were nearly as large as the Boslar herd. Their stock is all in the North Platte country and is now thelargest Yrd in the country, As moon as spring opens the stock yards company will begin the erection of slaughter houses, when these cattle will be brought in and slaughtered, and shipped east to fill the largo contracts which have boen made with eastern par- ties. e — A Very Remarkable Recovery, Mr. Geo. Strang Company were filed with the county clerk. This company succeed A. L. Strang and will continue the business at the old stand, corner Tenth and FarnamStreets. The case will be tried this after- noon. taining a — DISTRICT COURT. First Day's Proceedings. District court for the February term convened yesterday morning. Both judges were on the bench. The greater part of the day was occupied in calling over the docket and noting the cases which are to be tried the present term. Two hundred cases were called, the major part of which were continued. Judges Wakely and Neville are about to make a new rule by which the equity and law casos are to be divided. The objeot of the new departure is to keep the thirty-six empanneled jurors, or as many as may be necessary, constantly busy in the trial of jury cases before both judges. This rule will not be absolute as the stat- ute provides that cases shall be taken up in their order as they appear upon the docket and will always Le invoked unleas the attorneys insist upon their rights. The jury cases will first be taken up and which the jurors will be discharged and the remainder of the term occupied in the trial of equity causes. A committee consisting of G. M. Hitchcock, G. W. Ambrose, H. B. Smith, E*'W. Simeral was appointed to examine applicants for admission to the bar. E. H. Crowell, Tom Pieronnett and Henry Grebe were appointed bailiffs by the court. In the case of Ella R. Arnold against Leonidus B. Arnold, a decree of divorce was granted to plain- tiff. Late in the afternoon the grand jurors were called, all answering as their names were announced, They were then empanneled and advised of their duty by the judges. Samuel Hawver was appointed foreman. The jury then withdraw to its room, butadjourned until to-morrow without doing any busi- ness.
