Koyes, Lincoln; M. B. Brown, Counfy Compatison Between the Schools of Omaha and Lincoln, The male and female teachers of Lin- coln, with the exception of two, made an excursion to this city yesterday, arriving here on the 9:30 a, m. train. Thoy were met at the depot by Superintendent James, of the Omaha schools, by whom they were welcomed to the metropolis, The visitants were as follows: H. Bowers, county su yerintendentof schools, and w E. T. Hartley, superintendent of the city schools of Lincoln; Teachers G. G. Bullock, G. H. McKinnon, 8. P. Burrett and wife, Mrs. D. P. Tiffany, Miss K. Keckley, Miss Delia Walsh, Miss Rufiffson, Miss Tibbets, Miss O'Connor, Miss Smith, Miss Sweot, Mrs, Franklin, Miss Berme, Miss Codding, Alice Coy, Miss Ryan, Miss Thompson, Miss Mornsey, Miss Riley, J. M. Snell, and D.W. Hoff. Upon their arrival in the city they immediately proceeded to visit the different schools, each visiting the department with which they are similarly associated in Lincoln. The day was en- joyably spent by the visitantas as well as tho visited, and a general interchange of ideas upon scholastic matter was indulged We had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Bowers at the Metropolitan, last eveninyg where the party stopped during their journ here, and found him an aciom- plished and gonial gentleman. He ex- pressed himself as much pleased with our teachers and schools, and was of the opinion that, in general, our schools of Omaha, as managed were superior to those of his own city. While in Lincoin nearly all the teachers are graduates of that city's high schocl; in Omaha they are imported from other portions of the oountry, and a new field of labor incites them to greater activity in the cause of educayjon. In Lincoln, he says, teachers receive on an average $50 per month, and have no regularity of pay, while in Omaha they receive a greater salary and prompt monthly payments. He attributes these caunes to the fact of our achools being in better condition than those of Lincoln. We would have been pleased to have learned more facts relative to school matters from Mr. Bowers, but as they departed for home on the 6:30 train we were unable to do so. Suflice it to say that the party went away well pleased with their visi e PERSONAL, T Rev. George W, Frost, Sidney E. Mr. Grlbraith followed and with great fervor portrayed the try- ing circumstances in which lawyers were often placed, taxing their power of ora- tory to its utmost, far in excess of that required in the ministry. At the close of the debate tho judges rendered their decision; two being in favor of the nega- tive and one against. The subject for thenext debate is ‘‘Re- solved: That present indications point towards the dowufall of our nation.” This will be discussed two wooks hence, when a number of city friends will attend.
