Not finding him, he started back on foot and had not gone far when he met Wick- ner, (irabbing him by the scarf he called for help, but Wickner fled, minus the scarf. The man immediately got an offi cer on the culprit's track, who, with two others, overtook him southwest of here, arrested him and proceeded to search him. The prisoner jerked loose and ran, and the officer called to one Cook to como and help secure him. Cook came on horseback and the four men gave chase through the underbrush, but the fleeing man was too much for the ocrowd, when Cook gained upon him and ran him to- ward a hedge fence. In the district court yesterday a very touching scene was presented. Walter Kasson, the young man arrested for stealing a ticket at the Rock Island depot, was before the bar, and pleaded guilty to the charge of larceny. His father, C. D. Kasson, a well known attorney, and very worthy man, was by his side, and the sight of the sorrow-stricken father called forth the sympathy of all his brothers of the bar, and those in the court room who listened to him as he pleaded for justice to be tempered with mercy towards his wayward hn{ will not soon forget the event. It was a hard spot for a man of such standing to thus publicly shoulder a part of the disgrace which a son had brought on the family name. He spoke touchingly, and yet controlled his feelings so that it was not mere gush, or mere sentiment, There was re#son with the feeling, and his thoughts which must have crowded upon him with peculiar force, were crowded in with close words, Colonel Daily, the attorney for the young man, also made a plea in his behalf, and at the close Judge Reed sentenced the young man to four monthas in the penitentiary. Lloyd, the young man, almost a boy, who forged a_check for $25, on J. IR, Davidson, and presented it to the Citi- zons’ bunk for payment, was tiied yester- day on two charges. He made noattempt to explain tho matter, and was found guilty very proml)lly. The trial of O'Brien for the larceny of a watch at the Northwestern depot last summer, began yesterday afternoon. Arnold Jeffries and A, B. Upton, have had an indictment found against them by the grand jury, for conspiracy in try- ing to get money out of .John Nicholson, fries is out on bail but a dispatch was received yesterday that he will be here at once, e —— Fruits, candies, oysters, ice cream and cakes at W.
