There was quite a delegation .of ,nota- I bles from other parts of the county here yesterday, seeing what they eould.do to get the courts to hold terms of court at Avoca as well as in Council Blu#s, so as to both accommodate the attorneys, (liti- gants and witnesses from the east.end of the county, who claim it is too great a hardship to have to come so far, ‘(I'his question, like that of the division .of the county, has been quite thoroughly dis- cussed, and the facts shown up in dimes past, and this move seems only a vevival of the old attempt. It will at pres. ent run hack only 38 feet, but noxt sum- will be built clear through to the alley, giving it a depth of over 100 foot. It will prove a great addition to thet .part of Brondway. Mr. Maxon is also preparing plans for a number of buildings outside of the city, including a new operahouse at Dunlapand a new church ifor the Methodists of Shenandoah. e —— Rev. Mr. Armstrong, of the Methodist Yesterday afternoon a little boy named Lorenzo Day, a son of W. H. Day, while walking along the south bank of the creek, east of North First street, no- ticed a little wooden box and on prying up a part of the cover was horrified at finding that it contained the body of a ‘babe. He left- the box just where he found it, and the police being notifiod Chief Field went to the spot, took the bex and delivered it into the hands of Undertaker Morgan. The box was ap- parently one which had been used for starch, and was maiked on the lid *10 1ba bulk,” There was wrapped about the body an old newspaper and a bit of white cloth. The body was that of a new born girl baby, but there was noth- ing to indicate how it got there, or by whom it had been placed there. The bady.is to be at once taken to the ceme- tery and properly interred, as there seaws littlo chance for any further light to be thrown on the affair. e — <Go to Hurlburt's fancy steam dyeing and French dry cleaning works at 34 Pearl street. — TRACK TALK. Work on the new railroad that is to run from Atlantic indefinitely each way ‘north and south, is in rapid progress, and it is,axpected the rolling stoek will be in the track before long. From Conductor A. Swivel, of the C. Edward Bwivel, of {untingdon, is| . the possessor of an antiquepiece of mech- anisin which has a romarkablo history, In 1712 the ancestors of Mr, Swivel left Germany for Awmerica, and gmong their effocts was a old-fasbioned clock that was prized ly by them as an heirloom. Before reaching America the vessel on which they had sailed was wrecked, A fow weeks after the cargo of the vessel was recovered by wreckers, when the old clock was sont to its proper owners, who had located in Pennsylva- nia. At this time the Indians h come very troublesome 1 the € land valley, where the Bwivels h - tled, and the inhabitants of that region were kopt in of an impend- fug invasion. Finally an attack was made on the settlers, many of whom woge killed, & number taken into cap- tvity, and ther village destroyed. Among the number taken captive were the Swivals, who were treated barbar- usly by their dusky captors, but were finally liborated after months of priva- church, on Sunday night, pitchedintothe theaters, opera houses, actars .and ac- trensus generally, and sather indi uately.
