Kurtz, still rubbing his oyes * Your money, and I want it d—d quick,” said the impudent intruder, * Haven’t got any,” said Mr. Kurtz, who then gave a loud yell. “ Shut up! No more of that!" com- manded the robber, who still covered Mr. Kurtz with his revolver. ** Where are your pantaloons 1" ** Over there on the chair, but there's nothing in them,” said Mr. Kurtz. “ Noj they are in the closet,” intor- rupted Mrs. Kurtz. ** Get up aud get "em for me,” was tho next command of the robber to Mr, Kurtz. asked Mr. t them yourself,” replied Mr, Kurtz, who now gave another loud yell or two in hopes of attrecting some one's attention. “Shut up, or I'll blow your d—-d head off. Now get up aud get those pan- taloons,” Mr. Kurtz now deemed it advisablo to comply with the robbers demands, and accordingly he arose and got his panta- loons and handed them to the rascal, who kept him covered with a revolver all this timo. The burglar, upon getting hold of thoe pants, turned and went out into the hall to go down stairs. Mr. Kurtz, who unfortunately had no revolver, but who nevertheless was watching for ' ood op portunity to tackle the fellow, now sprang ofter him and gave him a lively blow with his fist on the back of his head, which knocked him down stairs. The burglar, however, immedi- ately regained his fect, and made his es- cape out of the back door of the house, through which he had entered. Had Mr. Kurtz had a revolver anywhere within convenient reach he would have furnished the coroner with o subject for an in- quest. Prior to going upstairs the thief had explored the lower part of the house and secured several articles of small value, ch he carried with him together with Mr. Kurtz's pantaloons, which contained ouly a small amount of change.
