Dix, cashier of the Council Bluffs Savings bank, had shot himself, went up and down the streets of the city yesterday morning like the wind. The report proved only too true. Charles E. Dix is no more. He had been suffering from ill health for some time, and naturally weak physically, he had by close applica- tion to business became still further en- foebled. He had during the past year or two made & noble struggle to regain health and vigor, and had indulged in out-door recreations, riding, fishing, hunting, etc., as far as possible, but last summer his health was such that he had to temporarily abandon active business, and spent several months on the sea- shore and in the east. Since his return his health has begun to break again, and sinoe last Thursday he has been con- fined to his room at the residence of A. W. Street. Monda; night he seemed to be a little flighty, but noth- ing serious, his remarks being a little strange, and he spoke of hearing voices and fancied there were others inthe room besides those really Ipn:nnnt. From the later and more startling facts it now ap- pears that disease at last affected his mind, and thatit was this bewildered condition of his brain which caused him to kill himself, Yestoeday muming, between ) and 10 ‘clock, some of the faraily heard some- thing upstairs fall, but little dreamed whatit was.
