POLITICAL PRATTLE, New Ones Trying Judicial Wi plenck, There is work, in tryin who is to be the winner of the judicial Supreme bench has caused no little rally. ing to the front among those who are as pirants for the position left vacant, and calling out the warm support of friends Petitions are bei cireulated, many sly conferences held ¢ nd all sorty of opinions uxprossed and conjectures made Judge Reed will in all proba bility put in his resignation sefore long, but it will not take effect until Janwary 1. The appointment to till the vacancy on the district bench will probably” be made by Governor Sherman before January 1, so that the mo selected may have time to arrange his other business matters, All conject ares seem to harmonize in the one thought, that Judge Loufbourow, of the Cireuit Court, will be appointed in Judge the real va- cancy on the Circuit bench, and he scramble seems to Dbe after this, In the city there are three named for that position, W. 8. Mayne, Capt. Hight and N, M. Pusey, and each has supporters, Mr. Mayne's friends scem more confident thun those of the two other gentlemen,b ut still there are nu- murous predictions that one of tho trio will get there. H. C. Watkins of Glen- wood; one of the firm of Watkins & Wil- liams, is having his name passed torward for the Circnit Court, in the advent of Judge Loufbourow’s appointment to the District bench. Mr. Watkins' friends have circulated a potition§ for the wppointment of that gentleman, and it is said that he has a strong backing in Mills and Fromont countics, and some support iere, among those who think that in pro- bate business especially he 18 very fine J. 1. Weaver, of Harlan. is among those named also, and his friends claim that he has a strong backing in Shelby, Audu- bon, Cass roll and Green counties, but the knowing ones here do not scem nis chances as good as those of Watkins. The question of locality seema to figure largely, and to bring out much talk about” what is to be done politically next year, The rest of the district seoms to feel that Pottawattamie county s gotting its share, and many here feel hat it cannot ask much next year, if a Council fis man is appointed to the sench, There are numerous home aspi- rants for Republican honors for next vear, whose names have already been nentioned. Council Bluffs, or Potta- wattamie county, is lookiag for the next Jongressman from the district. Al- though very early, yot the talk of Judges 18 brought it out. Some of State Sen stor Carson’s friends see in him the next Congressman, while the present Domocratic Congressman, Mr. Pusey, who was elected by Republican votes, |- will not probably be satisfied with one term. Then there is the District Attor- ueyship, for which it is understood Mr. Connor, the present attorney, will not strive very much, and the chances are it will fall into other hands. Already Council Bluffs folks are naming home talent for that position, Colonel Daily being named among the probables, and Jucob Sims is also being spoken of as one liable to be nominated by the Republi cans, It is predicted that there will be n, very ntrmu{ struggle amorg the three Council Blufls candidates for the hench, that the Governor will hardly deem it politic to selact one of them, but will avoid any such trouble and select a man from some other part of the district. I£ 80, he will leave this city and county a freor chance to go for some of the other fruit which is to drop from the limbs next year Those interested in the political figur- ing aro all busy as bees, as it is not often that one event so causes the probabilities of another year's doing to be discussed so earnestly and so far in advance. — Cut rates to g1 points at McAllister's icket offico, HOD Br(’dwny_ Couneil Bluffs, — Cornices and poles aro the cheapest at 2.
