Laramio Boomerang October 18, 1868, will be remembered by all the old picneers of Laramis s o most momentous one in her history Fifteen years ago the moral element of the then little frontier town asserted itself aud four human lives wero offered up on the altar of law and order, with most gratifying results. At that time there was 10 such thing s law-—at least, 1o such thing as what we now term Laramio. Men setuled law n their diffleulties in those personal hand-to-hand - entoun of the hour—the victins were huried under the ground and o questions asked Robbery and garroting were of dat ocenrrence and murder not unfre quent. There gradually arose in the minds of the better portion of the people u feeling of uneasiness and fene for their safety. Steps were soon taken to organize & vigilance committe und the tirst organization of this, at this time only twenty membws, | its appearance next week, we tind, under the head of “Eurly history,” & well-writ- ten discription of the work of this and subsequently organized comumittes, to- gether with a graphic pen picture of the fight with the desporadoes and subse quent lynching of four of their number. October 18, 1868—fifteen years ago to day. From advance sheots of this forth- sming work, kindly farnished us by the compilers, Messrs, Garrett & Morgan, | we make the following extracts There were a fow worthy and very resolute men in this firat vigilante organi- zation, but its only substantial frait was the hanging of a young mm callod *Kid"! during the last days of August, in the building occupied as a residence for some years afterward by our worthy townsman John Keene. But the hanging of this miserable, insignificant creature created an excitement among the roughs, and they at once organized thoroughly—not only for resistance, but for aggressive movement. They boasted of their strength, and threatened all who dared to complain of their misdeeds with ven- geance dire! Among the leaders of the roughs may be mentioned Con Wagner, Asa Moore, Big Ned, Sam Dugan, Tiger Bill, Morris Kohn and Dave Mullen Their organization and tho duily crimes finally united all the better eloments of our society, and in a very short time a new vigilance committee was formed, numbering 300 to 500 wen. They were thoroughly organized and officered by resolute, cool-headed men These men were all thoroughly avmed, and on the night of the 18th of October, 1868—a day long to be remembered by the old | residents of Laramic—this commitree | wet at an appointed on the west side of the vwlroad track, in the city, | and divided into squads and procceded t different parts of the town. 1| was the intention to mako a lescent at precisely the same momont on all the more pr minent gambling helis in - the town, and take out, without any greatdis- turbance some of the most noted murder- ors and robbers, and quietly hang them bofore their compunions could rally st cient force to rescue them. But fa 1 ordained otherwise, The squad of wen doots of the sume—a brillisntly lighted hall filled with dancers. Gandily dressed women, gamblers and desperadues were whirling through the intricate mazes of the dauce, their nimble feet keoping time to sweet music, which floated 1 ravishing straing upon the ning air, and ever and anon a burst of merrinent would £ill the room, in which were min gled the silvery dulcet tones of woman's voice, “‘fair, though irail, yet woman still.” The saturnalian festival was at its height when a pastol shot, loud and clear, rang out upou the night air. This shot was the signal fora simaltancous at- tack at several points in the town, but owing to some undue excitement wich this part of the committee, the riguul was premature, and the attack was mide at this point only. But at the signal, o a shout, w rush, and all was contusion The rouzhs, being well arm: resisted th attack of the vigiluntes with desperation and fought like tigers diiven to bay, What & sceno was the but a few minutes before all was gaity, The sweet steaing of melody were hushed and in their sread harsh, discordunt canie sounds, tumnltuons, wild and prophetic of doom to the desperado, For fi teen minutes the sharp crack from the deadly volvers made music to the weeping and wailing of the wowmen, and the shonts and muttered curses of the men. The suoke from the pistols gathered ina cloud, and hung liko s pill over the heads of the doomed, as 1f o shut out feom the sight of the angels the durk scene below. The roughs were overpowsred, and the r sults were threo men killed —one of the committee, oneamemberof the band of mu- sic,and one a noted desperado—and ahout fif feenmen wounded kome quite seriously; and three of the leading roughs, ,Con. Wagner, Asa Moore und Big Ned were taken from the place and hung at the same place where the “Kid" was h August. About sumise the next morn ing Big Steve, another noted robber and o was captured and hung toa urde: AN OPEN SECRET AMONG THE LADIES The briiiiant, fascinating tints of Complexion for vhich ladies strive are chiefly arti- ficial, and 211 who will take the trouble may seeure them, These roscate, bLewitching hues follow the use of Hagan's Mugnolia Balm—a delicate, harmless and always reliable article, Bold by ali druggists, The Magnolia Balm con- blemish, removes Sallowness, Tan, Redness, Eruptions, all evidences of picitement and every imners fection, Its e'fects are immediate and so natural that no human being ean detect its applicas tion, 11th Street, bet. Ifsuch people will put some iron into their blood, they will vitalize and enrich it. They can do this by the use of Brown's Iron Ritters, the | purest and most excellent iron med- icine ever made.
