The public schools and colleges by no weans hold all who are seeking education by following well arranged courses of study. As the winter evenings d near there is a renewal here of the plans adopted in previous winters for the guin- ing of further education and information Iy some who have finished their school- ng, but who are fortunate enough not o have the conceit that their education is (inished. To-nignt the Chautauqua club ueets at ats parlor in the Methodist hurch. The club was organized » and it enters on its second year with nie promise of even greater enthusiasm than Jast season. The course of study ursued is the same, cf course, as that pursued by the other Chautauqua clubs of the laad. This local club num- bers about fifty members, ranging in age from sixteen to sixty. A very pleasant parlor is being fitted up in the church, wnd here on every Monday evening the club meets, and goes through as complete « recitation as ever macked a school History, political economy, literature, science, are all in the course, and the \nembers, by following the fixed course ofstudy and helped by the weekly meet- ing, are gaining much, while having a delightful way of employing their leisure woments, Rev. Mr, Armstrong is the lender, and proves an cnthusiastic and helpful one. Another mutual improvement society is the Round Table, which is just re- v organizing for another winter's iudy and reading. This organiza- tion. makes no attempt at securing large numbers of members, but rather to afford an instructive and inter eating means of spending a portion of the winter to those who are ready to join heartily in the mutual attempt to im- prove mentally. The Round Table makes but little show or pretensions, but its work for several seasons has been good w well a5 pleasant, and it has been under tho leadership of a most excellent scholar, Rev.
