Gustave Beneke, who has for the past three months been on a visit to his native land, returned yesterday morning, accompanied by his wife and daughter, the latter a young lady of about sixteen. Judge Beneke's home was in Dresden, in the Kingdom of Saxony, but he has been 80 long identitied with the interests and welfare of Omaha that he is as much one of its pillars as any one could be. He has twice been elected polico judge and has given the most unqualifed satis- faction, He will fresume duties there this morning, The Judge has a host of warm friends and as soon as it bocame known that he was back again he was watched for and taken possession of, being compelled to undergo a regular president’s levee in the way of handshaking, Ho is looking re- markably well, and it is evident that his trip afforded him the rest and change he needed. The Pool Swindle Mystery, New Yorg, October 16.—The tapping of the wires of the Western Union Tele- graph company Saturday by means of which bogus dispatches were sent all over the country announcing the false results of Jerome Park ra es,and through which nearly $100,000 were lost by pool sellers, romains as much of a mystery as ever. The Western Union is having o strict inquiry made into the affair, and if the guilty parties are discovered they will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
