Special Dispateh to Tx Bas, LoxpuN, April 20,—The men ar- rested for connection Wlith the dyna- mite conspiracy were agaln broughtup this morning for a further hearing The court room was crowded. Among those present was Herbert Gladstone, the boy who was employed by White. head at Birmincham, and who was yesterday identified by Lynch, was placed in the witness box. He recog- nized Thos. Gallagher (Dr. Gallagher) as the man who visited Whitebead, The boy testified that Gallagher when he visited Whitehead gave the name of Fletoher. When he called to see ‘Whitehead he sent him (the boy) on an errand and told him he need not hurry back, When he returned ‘Whitehead and Gallagher were atill engaged in conversation, and White- head gave him a holiday. Shortly afterward Willson (another of the risoners) arrived in a cab. &u msid he had come for the ‘‘oll;” that ‘‘Fletcher” had ordered. Willson was conducted by Whitehead to an inner room., The next time Lynch came to Whitehead's place, bringing with him a large box. The boy was unable to swear as to the identity of Willson but he was, how- ever, positive as to Gallagher who, he sald, called eeveral times to see Whitehead, A detective belonging at Blrming- ham was sworn and he confirmed the testimony given by the other witnesses as to the time of Willson’s arrival at the house of Whitehead. Coleman, another witness, confirmed this ac- count, He sald Gallagher purchased of him a bag capable of holding 298 pounds of nitro-glycerine, Gallagher asked the prica cf other bags. The maker of rubber bags in Cheapside street awore the rubber bag was pur- ohased of him, It was proven that the latter cag was ordered by Wilson, but found by the police in Gallagher's room, Charing Oross hotel, po- llceman testified he foond a legal work in Gallagher's pessession, in which the paragraph relative to treason felony was marked. Ware, father-in.law of Judge M>Comus, who was recently killed by Indians near Silver Oity, glving an outllne of the situation in the Indian countiy, and of the efforta being wade to recover Oharles McCo- mus, the little son of Judge McComus who was ocaptured by ikc Indlans when they killed the parents. The good offices of the governors of Chihu hua and Sonora, Mexico, have been secured. A large reward has been offered and photographs circulated throughout the entire Indian coun- try. The whereabouts of the boy ls not known, and little hope is enter- talned of his recovery during the hostilitles. The court room was well filled. The privoner appeared nestly dressed and with bushy black whispers smoothly trimmed and parted at the chin, Emery A. Storrs and Danfel Munn appeared for the defence and made application for change of venue on the ground that Judge Jameson was preju- diced. Aftera brief corsaltation with State’s Attorney Mills he announcad coungel had agreed that the caze be heard by Judge Smith. The change of venue was granted In acoordance with the agreement. Special Dispatch to Tun Bua. MiLwavkes, April 20.—Amerioan expreas agents of this clty to-day dis- covered a package of dynamite of the welght of twenty.five pounds, Which was shipped from Newark, N. J, by the Adams Express, and tarned over to the Amerloan company Thurs- day at Chicago. It bore no mark to indfoate its deadly contents, but was directed to the Milwaukee cement company. When delivered by the Amerisn Express driver the officers in the cement company's employ said it was dynamite, and the package was returned to the American office, and lay on the sldewalk till 1 o'clock. The cement company claim It is only a lot of fuses. Experts say the amount was suffislent to bgow the express train to atoms or a whole block, Tae package is elghteen inches long, twelve inches wide and eight deep. Geo. H. Paul, president of the cement company, said to-night the box had not yet been opened and it was not known whether it contained fuse or dynamite. He aspoke of the matter lightly, ssylog it was common to ship all kinds of explosives by ex- press though more usually perhaps by water, and sald that the quarry com- panies throughout Wisconsin were in dally recelpt of Hecla and Hercales powder. The box recelved to-day was art of the order and would not have geen shipped unless safe. The ex- press ageut here says the oase will be investigated and the responsible par- tles brought to justice, A Huge Swindle, Spoclal Dispatoh to T Bax, New Yosk, April 20.—The Suydam land swindle, wkich has juat been broken up was one cf gigantio propor- tione, and might have been succesaful but for an inquisitive Scotchman. In the wiater of 1882, Hansen, of Nova Scotia, came to this olty. Here he met Jas, Madison Flagg, of Chicago, who represented he was the owner of 600,000 acres of land, rich in mineral and lamber in scuthwestern Virginia, Flagg suggested the formation of a lyn%!nte forthe purpose of buying the land at the price asked, $450,000, The syndicate was formed with Oap- tain Albert B. Cunningham, of Glasgow, Sootland, and several English noblemen and ocapltalists. Abstracts of title deeds, duly at- tested by the proper officers, and sealed, were given to Hansen, and in February he went to Edinburgh. Here he consulted eolicitors as to the best method of investigating the property. It was determined to ex- amine the records, and Hansen, his solicitor, A, Forbes Dollas, and Mar- ous Robinson, a timber wmerchant, oamo to this city, arrlving March 26, In the meantims Captain Can- ningham had pald Fiagg $6,000 for the synci :ate, as the first installment of the purchase money. Search of the records showed that the property belorged to other persons than Flage, and that the slgnatures of the county offislals had been forged. Suydam had made abatracts for Flage, for which he recelved $1 500. Suydam, when questioned, sald search had been made by Corey Glbson, of Virginla, but who or what or where he was he ocould not say. As the body of the abstracts were in Suydam'’s hands writing, it was de- clded to arrest him, and he was ao- cordingly taken into custody.
