Baldwin, plaintiff in error Starks, detendant in The case, which favolves 120 acres of land near Lincoln, has been vs. Francis error G. in litigation about ten years. In 1882 Starks took the land as a preemption, and in 1882 one Van Pelt filed a olaim | *®, on the land as a homestead. After years of contest in the land depart. ment of the United States, the land department decided that Van Palt should have the land and f{ssued a vatent to him. Van Pelt seld to Baldwin, who brought judgment inst Stacks. Cobb, Marquett & oore filed & bill in equity in tho dis- triot court of Lancaster county to re- cover the land and compel Baldwin to convey to him. The district court, Hon. 8 B. Bond, presiding, dismiased the bill and decided, following the declsion of the commissioner of the general land cffice, that the land belonged to Baldwin, Van Pelt's grantee, Starke then appoaled the cage to the supromn court of Nebraska, where the declston cf the districtconrt of Lancaster was reversed, and the land was adjudged to belong to Sparks Baldwin and Van Pelt then carrled the case to the supreme ocourt of the United S:ates, where the declsion of the supreme court ot Nebraska s re- versed and the declsion of Judge Pound is reinsteted, finally settling the title In‘ Baldwin and Vau Pelt. The case has been in - litigation for over ien years, and the property has become very val- uable. The land lles hnw:e;' the Agrioultural college farm and Lincola, opposite and south of the farm owned by Levi Bnell. There is 120 acres of hly improved. The case was apj from the state suoreme court and won by Lamb, Billingsley & Lambertson and Messrs. Mason & Whedon, who huve become largely in terested in the land. The vroperty is said to be worth $20,000. —_————— DEOLINE OF MAN. Naervous Weakuess, Dyspepais, Im- potence, Sextual debility cured by ‘‘Well's Health Renewer.” $1. ¥chool Affairs. The report that theUnited Gas Tm- provemont ecmpany of Philadelpbia had consummated the parchase of the Omala gas company’'s works has onused conslderable talk. It was stated that the purchaso price wae $260,000 and the purchasers were named as Mossrs K kins, Wid- eneér, Matthows, and other stockhold- ers of the United Gis Improvement company of Philadelphia; Mr. J. H. Millsrd, Mr. Wallace, and othera cf the Omaha Natloual bank; Mr. Gay C. Bartor, president of the Omaha Smeiting Works company; Mr, Nach, of the eamo company; and Mr, Ei. ward Eddy, the owner ot the Denver Gias Works, ard of a newly discovered coal wine of Colorado. A little social party at the Millard Taesday was also said to be in honor of this important business transactton, Mr. Jao. H, Millard, one of the al leged purchasers, says positively that the Omaha gas works have been bought out, but the idea that $250, 000 were paid for them is preposterous in vlew of the fact that the capital stock is only 100,000, The Philadelphia capltalists named in connection with the affair are, in faot, very wealthy, owning among other things a valuable street rallway propen{, and one of them belng ex- teneively interested in the Grand smelter, in Colorado. This latter gen- tleman {s, however, not at all inter- osted in the gas businees, whatever the others may be. Mr. Frank Murpny, president of the Omaha Gas oampnz, denies point blank that there has been any such sale as that announced and says that no such regulations as those reported havs been in progress, or anything preliminary to a fature sale. He olalms that the Omsha company man- ufactares as good a gas as any com- pany in the country and that there wounld be no object In making such sale, 'he little banquet at the Millard Taesday was nosin any way conneot- ed with the gas business, but was a private social affalr.
