Chopped feed declined €7 00 per ton Chaoges in the market during the past we k, as noted from day to day, have had a gradual fa'ling off from the prices ot the week previous, This is spplicable, ee. pecially to the grain and ene or two lines | Ny of dry goods; while various products of the farme, such ss potatoes, eggs, eto,, same -advanced and are in guod demand. The prices, however, of these commodities, | plaid: will peobably decline aeain within th' next ten days, although 1t ds impossible to speak with any certainty of potatoes, as planting ¢ime is at hand and prices are very unsettled, partly on account of the poor quality of stock on hand and partly on account of the uncertuinty of the sup- ply and demand from now uatil seed time is past, Farmers throughout¢he country are suppored to have stored more than they will need for seed, and 1t is reported that, on examination, many of he pota- toes have been more or less decayed, and large quantities are in an unmarketable condition. Koge are scarce and in good cewasnd, Butter is plenty and lowered snd the market dall, but prices will un. coubtedly go no lower until gress has growa large enoughk fcr eattls to Hve on, There is almost an over abucdsvee of oranges and lemons, aud the price remains ahout the same with only a fair demarnd, Freah oy ters are dull and will probably be taven out of the market w thin & week or two, Green house vegetables are jast coming into market, and radishes, onions, lettuce, etc., are on sale at the various commission houses and are relling at good prices, slthough the demand ks not very great. The Aspect of Winter Wheat is Changed for the Better, Review of the Grain Market for the Past Week, Curcaco, April 7 —[Herald speo isl] ~The week just closed has put & much more favorable aspect on the condition of the winter wheat crop, and materially changed the views of leglmate dealers and speoulators in cercals, It s now conceded that the prospects are favorable for a harveat uot nearly so much below the aversge a3 has been caloulated ov, and values have changed accordingly. Some seo- tlons have undoubtedly suffered sovere: ly. In the southern belt the loss through tho extreme winter and the drouth succeeding, is now reckoned at 20 to 26 per cent. Secrotary Smith of of the Oalifornta state board of agrical- ture estlmates a yield of 80 por cent. for the Paoific slope, Ia all parts of the country a more encouraging ides of the situation is carrent than w week ago, This faot co operative clroumstances have induced & sharp in _prices on 'change here, startlng on Wedneaday with a tamble of two cents a bushel, followed by a feeling of weakness and continued easluess, until at last it seems to be belteved that for the present, at losat, been reached. This started the crowd, and many who haa held on for a long time, hoping fora reaction, iscouraged and olosed out their deals before thelr lesses were greater, Margins on hundreds of small lots were exhausted and the trades cleared out, thus addirg to the offeriogs and increasing the downward tendenoy. Mr Handy states that he still believes wheat too high; that there s no con- sumption at present prices and can be none. It will have to go yet lower, he says, for the Earopeon countrier have ample supplies, and thera is only & limited demand for the immense stores of grain now in sight. Any olique which attempts to manipulate wheat must buy at the outset seven snd a ha'f million bushels in store here, and that {s but the first step. When the Janusry corner was run there was but three and a half millicn oushels in Onicago elevators. Nothing is doing in the fl ur trade, nor will there be while prices are where they are. Even when oconces- slons of 60 cents were granted few purohasers were to be found. The market {s over supplled, and the de mand must be allcwed to catoh up, which must be the osse soon if the mills continue thelr present low rate production, Stocks are kept light here. notwithstanding the absence of business, the receipts little exceading the local consumption, With wheat have followed the other food msarkets.
