Orrioe or THR OMAHA Ben, Satarday Evening, February 8, 'he whelesale trads of the city for the past week waa reported as only moderate, The continued eevere cold weather, the irregularity of the trams, and it being a season of the year when jobbers generally expect a light business, will account fqr this inactivity in most lines—only a very moderate demand for dry goods, cloth- ing, boots and shoes and millinery goods. The grocery trade was also reported quiet. Sugars were easy. Dried fruits averaged sieady, Teas, rice, syrup and nuts sold moderately. The general produce busi- ness continues dull, The apparent break- ing up of the extreme cold weather the first of the week had the effect of starting quite & demand for potatoes, which has been checked by the renewed severity of the weather. Apples show more animation than for eome time past, as the grocers’ supplies are becoming exhausted. Butter remains dull and unchanged, with a tendency of all grades to decline in price, as stocks are accumulating, FEggs continue very scarce and steady at 30c. Dreesed poultry is very ecarc and prices advancing. Turkeys are selling as high as 17c. and chickens at 15c. The fresh fish and oyster market is well % | yupplicd and a fair trade ie being dove in this line. Flour was in better demand and price® firmer—an advance may be looked for, Other mill-stufls rold moderately at steady prices, The provision market was active and prices advancing, Cutmeats of all kinds are selling at au advance of 35c. per hun. dred pounds over last week’s quotations, Lord is also in demand at an advance of 4bc, per hundred. The total number of hogs received dur- ing the week was 100 cars, packers paying $6 30 for good—an advance of 55@60c over last woek’s figures, Coal dealers are doine an active busi- ness, the supply is geod and prices remain firm, The only changes reported in the market to-day are s follows: Wheat, No. 2 advanced 1c; No, 3 ad- vanced 4c; rejected advanced 4c.
