HALL, Postmaster, Iowa Ralway Notea. Dea Moines Reglster. The people ot Des Moines know very little of the real progress and great merits of the Des Moines, Osceola and Southern rallrond. It has been in operation to Des Moines from Osceola for several mnulhu, but as it has stop. ped south ¢f 'Coon river, ronth of tho old fair grounds, not findivg an en- trance to the city at firat to suit it, it has not attracted the attention here that its merits demaud, It has been little known that 1t has ln the present year graded its lines routh from Osceola, some thirty-five miles, But it has, and yesterday the iron was laid into Dsvid City, which is situated in Dacatur county, some ten miles south- west of Leon. It had 60,000 of sub- sidies dependent on its reaching Davis City by the 1st of January, and now it has arrived there nearly two wecks ahead of time. This gives a length of rail of over ninety miles from Des Moines and opens up a hundred miles of territory not before tributary to this city, but which should and will now do its trading here, if only our business men go into it and possess it. It runs through aw rich a country as there 13 in Towa, end connects Des Moines with some of the best and most stirring towns and cities in Iowa. It crosses the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy road at Usceols, and can dis. tribute Des Moines goods right and loft on that line from there. It crosses the Hum eston & Shenandoah road—the joint line of the C, B. & Q. and the Wabash, at Van Wert, and so can distribute Des Moines goods right and left over that line, Two carloads of gouds were shipped from this city yesterday by this line for a point on the Humeston & Shen- audosh, and Prerident Harding says there is a general inquiry as to Des Moinen and its wholesalo capacity in all of the fitw country they are peno- trating, At Davis City the Oasceola line taps the Des Moines and St. Joe line of the C., B. & Q,, and so gives Des Moines a new and short route to 8t. Joe. ON TO 8T, JOK. We learn from Mr, Harding that his line will be extended to St Joe the coming year. There remains only 90 miles of roed to build, and a rich country and open field to go through to reach that important commeroial conter. This will make a good Des Moines and St. Joseph line—only 180 miles long, The money is all rafsed, and overy arrangement made for this extension, and the live men ahead of ithave proved what they can do by way of railroad building. So that by next winter we shall have a Des Mofnes and St. Joseph railroad in full opera- tion —thanks to its liberal and ener- getic management, It will be a line traversing a fertile and prosperous country Its whole length, and will in- evitably develop a large busincss, Des Moines should be wide awake, and go in with energy to possess this splendid new field of trade thus opened up to it, DES MCINES DEPOT, The company has purchased four full lots on Market street, between Wost Sixth and Seventh, "tor depot purposes, and will ereot the buildings early in the apring. It will cross the Raccoon river near the old fair grounds, and run disgonally over that territory till it strikes Market street, which it will follow to ite depot near Sixth. The buildings will be built at once, and trairs will be running into the city in a few weeks, On the firet of January a new pas- senger train and two freizht trains will be put on, and the business of Des Moines and all along the line strongly bid for. If our people will look on the map they will sco that it is a very important road to Des Moines, opening up to usa rich coun try, and thav it is & line which muat result in great benofit to the city, It should bo met in a iiberal spirit by the city and our business men, and treated with the gencrons considera tion and liberal patronage which it will so richly deserve. Oh, MyBack! That's a common expres- sion and has a world of meaning. How much suf- fering is summed up in it. The singular thing about it is, that pain in the back is occasioned by so many things. May be caused by kidney disease, liver com- plaint, consumption, cold, rheumatism,dyspepsia,over- work, nervous debility, &e. ‘Whatever the cause, don't neglect it. Something is wrongy and needs prompt attcnh& No medicine has yet been discovered that will so quickly and surely cure such diseases as Brown's Irox BiTTERS, and it does this by commencing at the foundation, and mak- ing the blood pure and rich.
