There was a ramor here yesterday that the Ohioago, Milwaukee & St Paul Railway companyg, which has so far been the only one to cut on fares, would resume the old rates to Minne. apolis and St. Paul before sundown. Up to last evening the office here had reccived no such orders, however, and hence the situation remainsunchanged, that company continning to sell tick- ets from here to St. Panl for 81, the route being quite a long one, it being by way of Sabula, Janesvilio, Madi- won, Win., and s0 covéring a gcod many.niles for a hundred cents, None of the from here have shaved a cent ro far, and it is thought probable that thoy will not. i i The Ohicago Timos says in regard to the resuming of the rates from Sioux Gty to Chieage v The western oad war continaes unabated, and but fow new features were developed yesterday. The cu in rates has not yet extended to busi ness west bound ~from Chicago. It was learned yesterday that the Mil waukeo Paul had resumed rafes from Sioux City to Chicaeo, which on the day before was $1,25 1t is stated that the Milwaukeo & St. Pacl, in issuing its general ordery to cat rates Monday morning, uninton- tionally included passenger ratea from Sioux Bity to Chicago. This elicited & vigorous protest on the part of the Illinois Central, and yesterday the Milwaukee & 8t Psul or- dered the $15.00 rate resumed. Messrs, Hughitt and Koep, of the Northwestern, have gone to New York, and it was reported that Alex- ander Mitchell, cf the Milwaukee and 8t. Paul, had &lso gone east, where it is understood that the financial back- ers of these two roads and the gentle. men named will consider the sltuation and determine whether the war shall be carried on or whether negotiatlons in the interest of peace shall be insti- tuted. Mr. Oable, of the Rock Island, states that, while stock-jobbers may tako advantage of the present railroad complications to depress stocks, the war, 8o far as the Rock Island is con- cerned, means an irrevocable determi- nation to secure an equitable division of the northwestern business, accord- ing to the Bock Island’s views, which he alleges to be one-third of the Min- neapolis and 20 per cent of St. Paul business. “Grunt It Out. The above is an old saw as savage as it issenseleas. You can’t “‘grunt out” dys- pepsin, nor liver complaint, nor nervous- ness if they onco get a good hold, They don’t remove themselves in that way, The taking a few dosen of Burnook Broon Bircens is better than “grunting it out.” ‘What we can cure let’s not endure, —_——— JIM IN THE JUG. Bnodderiy at Last Called Upon to Serve His Sentence. Tae Bee has several times called 3. G. Lomen preaches at the |Attention to the fact that Jim Snod- derly, who was fined $50 at last spring's term of the distriot court, for assaulting a boy, had neither paid his fine nor served his time, Jim has, for some mysterious reason, been al lowed to roam at large, and even when locked up on some mere; petty offense has been let loose again, with no ref. erence to this more serious offense, The other day a mittimus was issued, however, and Snodderly was taken in charge of by Sheriff Guittar and locked up to serve out the $60 fine The mittimus has been a long time coming, but better late than never. The assault on the boy was an out- rageous one and Snodderly got off easily with a 850 fine, and not to settle this was bringing contempt to the law and its execution. s Ll Fraud Tens of thousands of dollars are squand- from town to town professing to cure all the 1lls that our poor humanity is heir to, Why will the public not learn common sense, and if they are suffering from dys- epain o liver complaint, invest a dollar in puinG BLossox, sold by all druggists and dorsed by the faculty.
