In the last fiftean minutes there was a break in Den- ver to 48§ from 49§ and the remaioder of the list declined a fraction, the market closing weak. Taking the day as & whole, prices ran decidedly in favor of the bears, who maade good use of the cutting of rates by roads west of Chicago aud of threats of a serious railroad war there. The cap- italist speculators who recently turned the market towarG higher prices apparently stood off to-day and did not hinge, which gives color to the talk that at the higher prices of yesterday they secretly sold more stocks than they openly bought, GOVERNMENTS, Yesterday, To-day 102 02 101 sk 1194 129 Oentral Pacific firsts 114 114 Erie seconds..... 99} Lehigh & Wilkesbarre.... 101 a_consols 4 8] Missouri 112 St. Joseph. Sioux City Journa!, 15th. A shocking saccident occuired at Loveland, a few miles south of Mis- wouri Valloy, yesterday morning, by which Clark Conley, & popular young mun of Missouri Valley, was killed. Mr. Conley was a clerk in Holbrook’s bank at Miesouri Valley, and this morning he boarded train No, 3, on the Northwestern road which goes south to Council Bluffs, to ride to Loveland, s small station on that road. It is supposed that the unfortunate young man did not know that the train did not stop at that place, unless flagged, and it is not known whether the conductor had reached him in the car he was seated before the train reached there, or whether he wus told of the fact. He waa last seon by the train men to atep | out on the platform ot the smoking car, and the aext thing the horrified passengers in the rear car announced that aman had fallen off and was hurt. A gentleman at Loveland, however, atated to one of the train men, who brought the information to this city, that he saw Conley swing himself free from the step of the car and endeavor to run along by its side, holding his grip to the rail until he was turned over twice and torn loose, and that the unfortunate man bounded like a ball over four or five times and, when he reached him, lay a quivoring, bleeding mass of humanity aleng the track. The informant procured what assistance was near, and the yuunfl man was oarried into a house un the train from the south on the Sioux City & Pacific road arrived, on which he was borne to Missouri Valley. Conley’s skull, it was stated by the train mon who saw him, was crushed in on one side and the brain exposed, while he was otherwise injured. No hopes of bis life were entertatned by the surgeona who had just commenced the examination when the train left, The carelessness of the youog man, if reports be true, alone csused his death, as it has not been the custom of No. 3 to step at Loveland since the stub train began running several months ago, snd when the express passes through that station it is usual- ly at & speed of twenty-five miles an hour. Going at that rate, » man jawmp- ing from a platform would almost 10 stantly be killed, as he might as well be shot out of & cannon, The unfortunate young man was about 24 years old wod very highly esteemed in the Valley, Iis relatives are reported to reside in Rock Island, e Hon, O, H.
