He Fires a Too Loving Couple ata Midalght Hour. Price It iz not often that an editor has an item thrown right into his hand, but one of the best known and most able journalists intown met with a litte ad- venture that deserves to be recorded, although he declines to allow his name to be usea. Suffice it to say that he is on a democraiis paper. About two weeks ago his wife hired a servant girl who wasa Swede, and could talk Knglish very imperfectly, and who had a most decidedly inno- cent look, 8o much go in fact that the lady hesitated about hiring her, but finally said she guessed she could get along with her, and accordingly the girl went to work. The journalist had his misgivings that the girl was not quite so green as she looked, and that his opinion was correct was proven to him last night. About half past twelve o’'clock his wife woke him saying that she heard a man's voice in the servant girl's room. He was at first inclined to doubt it, but the doors being open and the conversation distinctly audi- ble, he was soon convinced of the fact and stopping out into the alley looked through the window where he saw the girl in bed snd a young man making preparations to retire. ne re- turned aud told his wife that it was no use to go to the room as in that case the young man would meuke his escape and told her if she would go to the door he would goout and stand in the alley and catch him as he skipped. This pro- gramme wes carried out and the jour- nalist stood at his own window watch- ing for the denouement. The lady of the house knocked at the door and there was considerable delay in open- ing it in order to give the young mana chanco to dress himeelf, and then the sash was raised and he made prepara- tion to climb out, Hardly had he stuck his head out of the window when a hand grasped him by the throst and a voice said, ‘“You get back into the room, I want to interview you before you leave.” The fellow was as much surprised as the democrats were when Indiana went republican two years ago, but he got back to the room pretty quick, The servant girl then opened the door and the two guilty parties stood in the center of the room looking very sheepish indeed. They were ordered to psck up and va- cate the premises at the very quickest ossible speed, and this they did, th departing about 1 o’clock, Hereafter they will be careful not to invade the hcuse of a newspaper man when they want to get up an amour without its beirg developed into a first-class sensation. “Ir Goks Riour 10 TiE Sror,’-~This expressive phrase describes the effect of & lass of Hus Puxcd, Ready on upeni:fi Cvery sideboard should have it.
