Mayberry, Pawnee On’ motion the convention adjourned aine die, TO THEIR KNEES. To Which Position an Invention by Col. G. Iiges Proposes to Bring Runaway Horses. The experienco of men of bramns in tne fur west hns on many occasions suggested to them ideas, which, jwhen earried into practics, ave been of un- old advantage to even the more ob- yeople of the east. At the mber of inventions preaen stern poople of which we duily make use, urd without which life in muny respeeis would indeed bea bar den, are netant use and to their number others are being added almost ily. Prominent smong those of the lat- ter is & recen vention of Col. Guido 1 of the Kighteenth infautry, at ¥ Assizibowe, Montane, While time a 1 t on the frontier in the march and in nversation witn frontiersmen, the colonel often witnessed and learned of *he disistrous consequences {0 both life and property attendant upon 1rses which had became unma . Lately while coufined by illness to his room in the Ebb house, Wasbiogton, D. At the forking point the strap is rotained in position on the pole by both a_ hook and strap around the pole. Immediately behind the middle of the pole, or if desired, on the foot-rest, is a strongly mude spring ciusp, through which the halter-strap passes to thedriver's seat. When the tean starts to ru, the hal- ter trap is pulled by the driver, and acting ea it does upon the fore feet of the team, the latter are compelled to shorten their jumps, and covsequently stop their run. Ina ecrowded thor oughfare, or near a precipice, a sud- den pull upon the sirap, throws the u and accompliches the s re- sult. The colonel claims his invention way easily bs applied to eaddle horzes given to trotting, or upon one still of a buggy, and with satisfactory resuits. everal of the straps and clasps are now in Welty's, on Farnam street, where, it is understood, a number of our citizens have already seen them and lefe orders for others, te.
