FAIR. One of the Pest Hxhibite of Stcck Hver Seenin the West Atiractions in the Mr chinery Line and Other Dipartuments Facts About the Fourth Day Fair, of the Yesterday the fourth day of the fair was a big succese, The day was almost perfect, the crowd numbering abou', 10,000, and everything being in fine working order, The dust contimvied as the only objectionable fertere of the day. THE SHOW OF STOCK 18 pronounced o be equal or better than that presented at the stute fair at Des Moines, or at the Nebraska state fair, Tt surpasses all, and calls forth much praise, and deservedly so. Tt is confined mainly to short-horns and Jerseys, but of these therc is as fine a showing as was ever grouped at any one fair, Beginning atone end of the long line of stalls, one finds the Park Place herd, of L C. Bald- win. who is_well-known as one of the largest and best stockmen in the west, and who besides adding to the attrac- tions of the fair by his showing of stock, has as president done much to make all a success. His show of short- horns cattle attracts much atteation, &nd there are some unusually fine animals in the lot, J. X. Griffith, of Shenandoah, Ia., occupies the next stalls with hisshort- horns, of which he has a large num- ber, and very excellent ones. Ho is an extensive stockman, and has picked the best of his herd to show here, and they certainly are fine ones, John G, Myers & Son, of Kalona, Towa, are also large exhibitors of ex- cellent stock. Thoir show of short horns attract much attention and are worthy of much praise. . H. S. McEwen, of Shelby, makes a very creditable showing of short horns also, as do others in lesser numbere. T. M. Marcy has & red bull calf seven months old, which took the first prize at Omaha, and 18 certainly a beauty. Graham P. Browne, of Omaha, has an excollent ahowing of Jerseys, which are as protty as pictures. They attract arevolver. She succeeded in getting away from him, ~ Frank Gresham is given as the name of the fellow who attempted to burglarize Maj. Anderson’s room at the Pacific house yesterday morning, —F. W. Spetman, of Spetman Bro.'s, the extensive general merchandise firm on South Main street, is the happy father of & big fine girl, All doing well. ~One conceited editor of a weekly sheet, foels in duty bound to pitch into the new fire alarm system, and show hws own ignor- ance by declaring that the firemen did all right the other evening by running down Broadway In response to an alarm Irom box 8. Asnearly all know, box 8 is by the city building, and not down Broadway at all, The knowing editor, who is so ready bo criticise the alarm system, should at least look at his list of boxes before passing judgment. “Palace Muslc Hell. Mueller's extensive musical instru- ment establishment, on Main street, is known far and near by the above name, and justly so. It is certainly an interesting place to visit, being one of the larpest establishments in the west. Ho onrries a complete and varied musical stock, and handles only the best of everything in his line. His stock of toys also is one of the largest west of Chicago and is full of novelties, and all the goods are new. A SHOW OF ITSELF, 8. 8.Keller's Large Furniture Estab- ‘lshment Presents an &xtra Display. —_— 8. 8. Keller, tho well-known fur- niture man, is having a spocial exponi- tion of his own this week at his large salesrooms and warehouse on Broad- way. The firet floors of both stores are covered with as fine a display of furniture as was ever seen in this part of the land, There is one beautiful chamber set, one of the handsomest that has been shown here, at only $400, and thero are others of almost equal beauty, making in that kine an attractive variety, Among the side- boards aleo there is one which is elo- gant enough to wke a place in the most palatiul residence. Then there are parlor sets of rare beauty, easy chairs, which combine much com- fort with much elegance, upholstered goods of all kinds. A great variety of tables and stands, from the new style dining and study table to the most costly marble center-tables and -daintily carved ebony stands. Then there is & greatvariety of brackets and curved ornaments, pictures, easels, music-holdere,~ in fact too many at- tractions to One would chink that Keller Lad made enough of a show on the main Noore, but up stairs the entire space is covered with an- olfi;:fiuu showing of equally elegant Mr, ¥eller is elso enlarging his oor- ders He is building a brick addition to the rear of hisatore, 40 by 45 feet, two stories high, and is adding another story to the warehouse in the rear of that, thus makiog hie establishwent 4 continuous stretoh from Broadway olear to Bluff street. The latter streot i on & level with the second story, & that goods brought in from the Bluff #lrect entrance can be carried right along the second floor without the aid of an elevator. The building improve ments now in progress will make Mr Keoller's establishmont one of the largest and bost in the weat, and the ecial display of furniture now made ¥ bim shou'd be visited by every cue . the admiration eveu of those who are not enthusiastic Jorseyites. In fact, without going farther into details, the cattle display is reaily ono of the most meritorious features of the fair, and the eflect of such show- ing is not merely that of passing amusement, but it inspires in many the determination to raise the grade of theircattle and to keep better stock. It proves that this part of Towa cau give o good stock show, and that it need not depend on outsiders alto- gether for a display, but has choice stock of its own. BAA, BAA, BLACK SHEZP, The sheep pens attract not a few visitors, and there are some very good showings. There is one very good ram_exhibited by W. H. Bmith and W. W. Cory. G. W. The Maasil- ou thresher, with its perfect work is ulso eagerly watched by the erc 1t's simplicity commends it, and it is 80 easily managed that it can be made to do the bidding of almost & ehild, It runs very swoothly, and don't seem to be trying to tear itself to pieces as most of the threshing machines do, The patent ‘kicking” attachment lately added attracts much attention, and is evidently a valuable improve ment. By its use the straw is picked up from the table, thoroughly shaken, a partial break being made in tho mass of straw us one set or the other of the forks perforws its oftice (this being the equivalent of a man with a fork) giv. ing to the grain additional opportunity for finding its way to the lower table The thresher on exhibition has a capacity of 1,200 to 1,500 bushels a day, and cleans the grain perfectly, They have these threshars of all sizes, and also horse powers.
