TO BXPLAIN THE SITUATION No Diecord Between the American and Natlonal Woman Suffeage Assoclation. I think Tur Ree has a misconcey f the two woman suflrago asso- American and the Na In Fiiday evening's fssue I find the following item: ciations, the tional, “‘The advocates of woman suffrage soem to be divided even before thoy have angthing to divide on. The Amorican W, 8. A, and the National W. 8. A, the latter to meet hero next Tuesday, have aplit on the old state’s rights question, the crowd thathas just adjourned espousing the state’s rights or democratic side of the house, and the coming assembly being more of & national party, as its name indicates, and consequently republican in tone,” The associations have not split on any issue, whatover. Both are work- ing for tho samo great end, woman suffrage, Neither association espouses as a party either tho demooratic, or republican, or any other. Tho ques. tion of state's righta has never been discussed, much less made inharmony, The two _associations are on good terms, as Miss Susan B. Anthony was invited and occupied the platform of the American W. S, A, last Wednes- day, and several times referred to the number of campaigna in which she and her friend, Lucy Stcne, had worked together. Does thia look like strife between the two! There are too many persons even of the public speakera belonging to both associations. 1f there wore hard feelings and jeal- ousy would either society permit its members to join the other? Now let me explain the only dif- ference between them. It is this: The American believes in securing woman suffr: gs through the state leg- islatures and coustitutions, as Ne- braska, Indiana, Oregon, Kansas and Towa are doing. They think that plan of work will bring universal woman suffrage sooner than by any other means, The National Woman's Suf- frago association, which counvenes in the opera houeo next week, thinks that the best and easier way of work ia by a sixteenth smendment to the constitution of the United Staves, They believe that congress as a body can be convinced sooner than the vast number oi constituents of each sona- tor and representati and that woman suffrage can, like Jnegro suf- frage, be made universal by our con- gross, through a sixteenth ameudment, hence this name, National Woman's Sullrage association. The entire dif- ference is mmply one of methods of work, not of strife, envy or jealousy, Both are concentratiug all their ener- wies iu Nebraska this year, thus the National are recogmizing tho aims and objects of the American, aud the Awencan likewise sends petitions t congrees every year, thus rocopnizing the National in this work, I hope this explanation will be suflicient, aud that neither Tuk Bek nor Herald will refer to discord between the two aseo caticns for it does not exist, Mapame CaartroNy Euon, Horsford’s Acid Phosphats Lom- onade.
