The OIl Inspector Files Information Ay ainst the Consolidated Tank Line Company. Edwatds, of Glenwood, which stood only 130 de- grees test, whereas the law requires it to stand 1564 degrees test. Mr. Wag- ner appeared, gave bonds in the sum of $200, and had the case adjourned until to-day, with the understanding that if the proseeution agreed it should be put off until Monday, The Consolidated Tank Line must be doing all tho businees, or else the inspector must have some particular liking for inepecting its oil. Judging by the animus he has shown through- out this, the first week of his official life, it is evident that he is not enthu- siastically loving toward the company. first four day's insp the amount of the Consslidated co pany’s oil inspected, as compared with other oils: n, showing Foster Bros. Tt will also give an op- portunity to find the weak points in the law, and whether parties are willing to crawl out of any little hole that may be discovered, HAPPY HO!{PITALXTY. It 1s Shown a Gathering of Friends by the Misses Walker, On Thursday evening last there was a Jargeand joyous company of friends, for the most part of young ladies and gentlemen, who gathered at the resi- dence of A, B, Walker, on Sixth avenue, in response to the invitation extended by his daughters, Miss Fan- nie and Miss Jessio Walker, The gathering was in honor of their friend Miss Edith Ross, of Iowa City, who is paying a visit to her old howe, Among thoso present from elsewhere were also Miss Minnie Woods, of Omaha, and Miss Russell, of Glen- wood. The occasion was a delightful one in vvery respect, and every detail of hospitality was so_generously plan- ned and happily carried out that the enjoyment of each and all the guests was made complete. The parlors were beautified by floral decorations in abundance. The Bayarian band was secured for the occasion and gave ex- cellent music, and those who delighted in the dance were given full choice to enjoy themselves to their heart’s con- tent. The refreshments [served were in full keeping with the elaborate preparations for the entertainment of the guests, and thus in all respects there were the features ot a real mer- ry-making, HALF A HUNDRED That 18 What it Cost Moses O'Nellt to Capture a Small Pox Flag. Yesterday afternoon Moses O'Neill appeared bofore Judgo Aylesworth to answer the unique charge of slealing a small pox flag hung out as a warning in front of & honse near the Rock Is- land depot. O'Neill pleaded guilty, and explained that he had been on a spree for several days past, and did not remember much about the affair. He could not believe that he had en- tered the house and pulled the small pox patient about the room, for he did not think he would make such a fool of himself even when drunk, but such seems to have been the case, He was fined $560, that being the least penalty that could be imposed, Ho paid up and went on his way, with a good prospect of having nothing more than the varioloid, as he has been woll vaccinated, and perhaps the whisky he had aboard may save him from that, HBaby's Warning When baby has pains at dead of uizht, Motherin fright, father in & plight; When woras do bite, haby must cry, 1t fovor sts In, baby n.ust dic, 1t croupy pains kill Leouors, In that house therels no Castorin, For motbers learn wi'hout delay, Castorla cures by night and day, A Milwaukee Terror, Peck's Sun, ““When is your ma coming back?" asked the groceryman of the bad boy a8 he found him standing on the side- walk when the grocary was opened in the morning, taking some pieces of brick out of his coat tail pockets, ““Oh, she got back at midnight last night, d the boy, as he ate a fow blueberries out of a case, ‘‘That's what makes me up so early, Pa has been kicking at these pieces of brick with his bare feet, and when I came away he had his toes in his hand, and was trying to go back up the stairs on one foot, Pa han't got no sense.” “Iam afraid you are a terror,” said the groceryman, as he looked st the innocent face of the boy. *‘You are always making your parents some trouble, and it is a wonder to me that they don't send you to the reform school, What deviltry was you up to last night to get kicked this morning?" “No deviltry, just a little fun. It is a delicious fruit, sometimes of a red and some- ney shaped seed on the outside instead of meide, like other fruits. This delicacy by many people, but if not blistera on the lips. We had no dif- ficulty in filling our backets with as many cashews as we required, and were about returning to the boat when one ¢f Mr. B.’s sons, who had been some little distanced away from us ssuntering about in tho brush, called to mo to come back, and, on going to where he was, ho pointed to what seemed a broad band of moving leaves right across the path, and, on looking more closely, I eaw we had met with one of those enormous swarms of the “‘parasol” ants which are so destructive to plantations in the tropics, They were crossing from one side of the wood to the other, and were traveling in a column of more than a foot and a half in width, and a8 each insect carried in its mouth a piece ot leaf they prosented a singular appearance, like a Lilliputian grove in motion; and, although we watched them for some time, still they came, their numbers seeming to be inex- haustible. Nothing can turn them from their course, and, although they may be destroyed by the thousunds, enough will swarm upon the ntruder to make him repent_interfering with them.
