REPENTING AND RETURNING The Lone Sought Miseour! Girl 1s{ Found and s Homeward Bound. A short ttme ago Tie Ber noted the fact that there this city trying to get some trace of a wayward girl, who for two years had been loat to home and friends. The friends had been informed that she for a time lived in this city, but they were unable to get any trace of her, and the search here was abandoned as it had been in other places, Tue Bee at the time gave an outline of her life, how she had left her home o f lux- urp and wealth, preferring to see thp world without restraint. The father, who is well known throughout My - were parties in souri, and who is both promi- nent and wealthy, is fau ign in health, and the anxiety for his lost daughter bore heavily upon him. He was not backwack in expending money in his search for the daughter, and has sent messengers in various directions during the past two years, but all in vain, The atten- tion called to the case by The Beg re- sulted, however, in accomplis what these messenger sfailed to acc plish. A gentleman of her acquaint- ance finding the account of her life and wanderings to coincide with those which she had related to him, sent her a marked copy of the paper and wrote to her, urging her to return home, She could not believe that her friends were 50 anxious for her return, but on finding that it was indeed her father who was thus searching far and near for her, she has decided to return to her home in Missouri, and leave the gilded palace of sin in St. Jo, where she has been living of late. She weems fully determined to lead a life more worthy of her friends, and more true to her womanhood, and in aletter tothe gentleman whosent her Tie Ber and put her on the track toward hme and friends again sho says: *‘I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the interest you have taken in me. 1 have seon the folly of drink—ace the dearest friends turn against me. 1 hope you will accept my sincere thanks for your kindness, und rest assured you will always be considered the means of changing me from a low degraded life to one L hope of hap- pivess.” It is to be hoped that sur- rounded by the helpful and healthy influences of the home to which she is going her resolution to reform may never be broken. With the completion of the electric fire alarm, the water works and the perfecting of the paid department system, the city will be in pretty good lhlp.& suppress blazes, DENISON RLUGGERS. Correspondence of The Bee. Dexisos, Iowa, August 16 —This morning Mr, J. H, Meier, who runs the saloon about here known as the Neow Three-Mile house, met with a acrions loss of property, and only by great firmness saved his life, While Mr, Moier was in Denison three men, August Eggers, Henry Eggors and their hired man, entered his saloon in Goodrich township. They called for lquor, but as spirits are not kept there Mrs, Moicr refused them, They became very violent wnd threatened to kill Mr. Meier. They then started to find him. In the meantime Mrs. Meters sent word to her husband to harry home. He returned with quite # load of groceries. After unloading these he saw the men returning. They \n 6% | ve-entered tho place, emashod every- broakable, scattered all the stock on the floor and then proceeded to at- aud hose cart will roll out as lively asq OF has auy at all, The two-headed woman arrived yes- terday with Batchellor & Doris’ cir- cus, and in the forenoon held a sort of reception to the medical fraternity and newspaper men. It is difficult to decide how to speak of this mystery, whether to say ‘‘she,” *‘they” or “it."” There nover was & personage so mys- tifying and puzzling to any one desir- ing to use the English without slaugh- toring it. *‘They is a she, and it are & woman,” is about as near as one can got at the truth, Whatever the term that may be used, the mystery, in sposking with either mouth, always says “L” and never ‘‘wo.” So it may be fairly judged that the use of tho singular” number is approved by both heads. ‘‘She,” then, is called Millie Christine, or Christine Mille, one head being christened Millie and and the other Christine. She is about thirty years old, and wes born of slave parents in North Carolina, being then the property of the fathex of their present manager, Mr. Joseph Smith. She is a light mulatto, of medium height, possesses two heads, four arms, one waist and four legs. In fact she is two persons in one. Each head seoms to work in- dependently of the other, so far as talking, singing, ote., is concerned, so that she can never get lonesome as one head can visit with the other. Above where both merge into one trunk the sensation of touch is folt separately by each. For instance, by pinching one of the arms one head alone feels it, but below the juncture all mensations are the sumo to both braine, 1f any one ateps on any corn :!1 any one of the four feet borh heads feel the pain, a double wfiliction which should be avoided by having the corns wbove the juncture if they or she have She converses with F equal fluency and with as many differ- ont languages with one head as with tho other, She sings, she dances, she indulges in daets all by herself, and can sing and talk at the same time, In fact she is really a mystery, She has traveled extensively in Eu- rope as well as this country, and on the expiration of the present engage- ment with Batcheller & Doris, Nov- ember lat, will still further increase hor knowledge of other lands by a trip to Australia and the Asiatio country, She has amassed a fortune, aud now owns tho plantation on which she was born, and there cares for her old father and mother, Among those who saw her at the Ogden house yesterday was Dr, Pin- ney, whom Tee Bee man questioned as to what he thought of her, the doctor having bsen one who examined her. The dostor said that by exami- uation it was found \hat the spinal column of each individual person (for he deemed them two pewsonalities) was perfect and complete dawn to the lumbo-sacral region, where there was & complete and perfect junction, the one terminating in the other. Nature had at this conjunction of the spine and pelvie region culminated in a uni- city of being, so far as sex, etc., was concerned, Yet the lower extrewmities were those again of two, separate and distinet persons. Doctor Pinney ex- pressed it as his belief that uature intended them for two e but the two germs from which they had their origin, by contact and pressure coal daring the first weeks of uterine life, which GUST 18 1882, \tully accounted for each having the same sensations, in the lower extremi- ties, from touch or injury. Gen, Steedman tells a good story which is applicable to the manuer in which the aristocratic Sixtieth Rifles recently ekipped out in front of Ram- leh and gave overything up to the Egyptians While near Nashville the gencral had a negro regimont on the picket line, and a bright young mu- late sergennt in command of a post got the drop on a rebel post and cap- tured the whole outfit. The rebels were a ernwd of high-stepping young Virginians, and some of them were badly wrought up by the idea of hav- ing to sorrender to a “‘lot of niggers.” Gen. Steedman took their commander, a fine young fellow, into his ten’, ex- tended eome Jittle courtesies to him, and in the course cf the conversation said: “It was a little tough, Lieuten- ant, to be taken in by colored soldiers, but war has strange experiences ‘‘Well, General,” raid the other, set- ting down his glass, “I've been in the army now nearly four years, and if T've learned anything it has been a profound respect for the musket. When the muzzle is shoved into my faco T don’t usually ask any questions a8 to who's got hold of the breech.” Gen. Shermen tells nearly as good a story, in his book. He was stand- ing on the sidewalk in St. Louis when Gen. Lyon went out with his men to attack the secessionists at Camp Jack- son. A young lady of Gen, Sher- msn’s scquaintance—daughter of one of the most aristocratic families in the city—was standing on a stoop near by, wringing her hands and crying. She said her brothers, cousins, and " number of ‘acquaintances were in Camp Jackson, and she was certain that they would all be killed, for they were proud, high-spirited men, belonging to the best families 1n the city, and they would all die before they would yield. Gen, Sherman tried to console her by saying that he had noticed that sops of first-class families wero usually not any more willing to die than any other people. He continued his walk, and in a little while met Gen. Lyon returning with the entire forcs at Camp Jackson, which had surrendered without firing a gun. He hastened back to comfore the young lady with the news of her kinsmen's eafety, but after sho heara it she slammed the door in his face, ~ MAIN STREET LIVERY,” FEED —AND— SALE STABLE.
