ALEXANDRIA, July 14, 8 a. m.— Admiral Seymour has landed and taken possession of what remains of the Ras El Tin palace. Ho has offi- cially notified his government of the occupation and sent the further in- formation that he has, for the protec- tion of the palacs, disabled the guns of the batteries opposite the palace, having spiked those too heavy to over- throw, The guard of Admiral Sey- mour at the Ras Kl Tin is composed of a apecial body ot marines. 8:20 A. M —Fires throughout the city are still burning with great fury, A CITY OF RUINS, ~Seymour has puta body of work clearing the streets. The khedive was brought ashore by Seymour and is now lodged at Ras-ol- Tin, protected by a guard of seven hundred marines. Seymour pronounced the conduct of the officers and men splendid be- yond praise. 11 A, m.—The fires ia all parts of Alexundria are burning at this hour with increased fury and spreading rapidly. The city at this hour appears to be beyond all doubt doomed to ut- tor destruction. Nothing can possibly save it. The flames have had their own way now for upward of seventy- four hours. The burning city is like a red hot furnace. The third part of the town is burned over to almost 1ts entire extent. MUTILATED BODIES OF CHRISTIANS, 11:15 A. M.—A corps of sailors de- tached to clear the way through the streets leading to the principal wharves, report finding bodies of chris- tians and Europeans lying everywhere. Most of them are shockingly mutil- ated and nearly all either charred or scorched. The sailors say the massa- cre must have been terrible beyond imagination. SEYMOUR'S NARROW ESCAPE. LoxnpoN, July 14.—A special cable dated Alexands*s, 9:30 a. m., says Admiral Seymour, under instructions of his government, made preparations to land a~d occupy Alexandria in the interest of the khedive in order to enable him to resume his authority there, and had selected a picked corps of 3,000 men to undertake the task. A party of Egyptians engaged to scout the city in the interest of the khedive, convinced Seymour the plan would result in the maseacre of the marines, a8 Arabi is is securely intrenched with 9,000 men just outside of the city, well officered ind provisioaed, and would make every effort to prevent the landing of troops or to save the city from destruction. Seymour, on receiving this statement from the scouts determined to post- pone permanently occupation till he had reccived further instructions from Eogland and deaided to coufine his occupation to the Raz-El-Tin palace, and his efforts to protect the khedive, THE EGYPTIAN COCK CROWS, Avexanouia, July 14.—Arabi Bep has 9,000 men outgide the city to pre- vent occupation, Seymour has noti- fied his government that he can land only 3,000 men, and that it would cripple the service of the fleet; that he has postponed landing, waiting for in- structions and reinforcements. Arabi Bey is preaching that England id, and points to Sey- mour’s inability to ocoupy Alexandria as proof. He seys the Earopean powers refuse to assist England, and that England has so many internal troubles that she cannot raise an army within a year. Arabi is recruiting thousands of Arabs, and tells the Egyptians that there is going to be a great war and a great battle wiil be fought soon. He says he lost less than a thousand during the bombard- ment. THE KHEDIVE SKEDADDL The fire has now reached the Arab- ian quarters, The French consulate building is burned, Six bodies of massacred Europeans were found in its ruins. Durrahman, prime minister, maintained that Arabi should now be ‘reated as a rebel; also that it was useless to send orders to the khedive, as he was pow- erless to execute them, IMPOTENT TEWFIK, Arexanpkia, July 14,—The Khe- dive, after consultation with Seymour, decided it would be safer to return to the fleet in view of the possible attack by Arabi's troops. The Khedive then returned aboard one of the ships, guarded by 500 troops. On arrival he at once issued a proclamation ad- vising the soldiers of Arabi to disband, Seymour has ordered cannonading over the city to scare off invaders, The marines killed one hundred A rabs in stroet fights Arabi’s corvetto is anchored off Port Said, and the British gunboat Iris, just arrived, has anchored with her broadside opposite. e ———— Singular Tramps.
