Brunswlck, Ga., Roview. The opossum is a great delicacy in the southern portion of the United States. The mnegroes especially go fairly wild over them, and during the season their mouths water at tho bare mention of ‘“’possum.” A Georgia negro gives expression to his feclings on the subject as follows: “Oo-00-ee! go ’'way nigger! Any parties wishing any- thing done in this line should send di- rect to Brunswick and Balke Co., 509 South Tenth street, or to J. Hoch- strasser agent. Satisfaction guaran- teed. may22-1m President Arthur's Style. Boston Transcript. I recognized the president at once by his photograph. He is a splendid man in size, form, feature and bear- ing, and he appears in style beficting the chief of more than fifty mullions, None of your Johnson type, harangu- ing the crowd and rewarded with “*Bully for you, Andy,” nor of the Hayes type, walking with his wife to church and elsewhere, in republican simplicity, with a crowd of brethren after him. When Arthur appears in public, the public know it by his ele- gant carriage and span to match, with black coachman and footman beside him in livery, their buff-colored suits studded over with shining emblems; and other vehicles, big and small in rank, quickly snd quietly move aside. And yet there is nothing obtrusive; the president in a suit of black, sits back in his carriage, accom- g:niod by his secratary, or some mem- r of his cabinet, It is simply the president of a mighty nation moving about as becomes such a dignitary. The white house every few evenings is all ablaze with illuminations on the occasion of receptions and dinner parties. Yet President Arthur is all affability whenapproached, and partic- ularly attentive to littie children, graceful and dignified to the ladies, and courteous toall —a splendid speci- men of an American gentleman who has mingled with the best society, and knows how to receive a diplomat or the most unpretentious of his fellow citizens, Worthy ot Praise: As a rule we do not recommend Patent Mediciues, but when we know of one that really is a public benefactor, and does positively cu'e, then we consider it our duty to impart that information to ail, Electric Bitters are truly a most valuable medicine, und will surely cure Biliousness, Fe er and Ague, Stomach, Liver and Kidney Complain’s, evin were all other remedies fail. The Spectator, By the last accounts the frontier fortresses have been vastly enlargened and fully provisioned, the arsenals are all full, the supply of officers keeps up and the minstry have at their dis- posal, without reckoning the ‘‘Terri- torialists,” or ultirate reserve, 284,. 000 infantry with the colors, 68,000 cavalry and 68,000 artillary; or with the administrative corps and gend. armerie, all solaiers, 499,000 men, be- hind whom stand 327,000 reservists, all seasoned men, capable of being mobilized in a fortnight. Allowing for a failure of 10 per cent for sick- uess or other causes, the ministry can put in the field, for any sufficient cause, 760,000 men, armed, drilled, and organized, leaving bchind them at least as many adults under 356 who have been soldiers. That is & most formidable army, even against a ficst class power, and the only question is whet .er the men are worthy soldiers. The critics say no, because they are oung, because they are unwilling, cause they are materialists; but all that resolves itself into the single idea of want of heart. These masses of fighters have drill enough, discipline enough, material encugh to do everything, even to face Prussians, if only they have leadors, a motive, and that small modicum of victory which, to men of their temper, sup- plies ' heart. Give them chiefs who can win, and evidence that they can, and a cause they understand, and Europe, which is now decrying them, not without a secret complaissance, would again be complaining of the in- herently military character of the French people. As yet they do not see the cause, and recollect the inva. sion of 1870, and are out of spirits; but the merest accident, an alliance perceptible to the people, an affront which came home to them, the appear- anco of a general, might change all that in a week and make France once moro 4 prime mover in councils of Euicpo, “By asking too much we may lose the little that wo had before.” ~Ki ney-Wort asks nothing but a fair trial.
