There was some property left to them, and a guardian was ap- pointed to look after their interests. Some of this property was sold and divided, and a portion belonging to the heirs was received by them. There was some property, however, which was said to be covered with mortgages and otherwise encumbered, 80 that the settlement of it was delayed year after year, the heirs sup- posing that it amounted to too little to worry over or look after. It appears that one of the daugh- ters, Miss Cora Neff, is entitled to a large amount yet, no settlement hav- ing been made with her, and her share of the estate proving to be more valuable than any supposed it to be. She was but a child when the home was broken up, and the was taken by a family and soon after transferred to another family, and soon lost sight of altogether, One of the brothers is living. among the Indians, and the other has not been heard of for some time. One sister, Miss Rhoda Neff, has lived in this city and in Omaha for some time, where she still is mak- i her home with her uncle, Mr. William Kimball, who has Boen a resident here for ever thirty years. This sister has not met her younger sister Cora for fully six years, and has lost all track of her. She has several times received reports concerning her whereabouts, but on tracing them up has found that it was some one's else sister and not hers, or that her sister had left before she could reach her. She at one time learned that she was in a hotel at Corning, but on going there found that her sister had gone. At another time she got proof that her sister was in Council Bluffs, in company with some one, but who the person was could not be learned. She remained here but aday or two. The last trace was that she a few months ago went with a family to Colorado, and she is supposed to be some where in that part of the country, It is thought a key has been found to explain the diftculty of tracing up the missing girl. It is said that var- ious advances have have been made by certain parties to get control of e property in which she still retains an interest, and it is claimed that the property is of so much greater value than was originally supposed as to prove a motive for designing persons to keep her in ignorance concerning her own rights and own wealth, and to keep her whereabouts from those of her friends who would gladly en iten her, g ins Cora Neff, the missing heiress, is now only seventcen years old, and holnmhmwn out of home as a girl, has Little or no advantages so far as can be learned. Complaint has been made that Dowdy is still selling drinks at his place near Dohany’s hall without the needed license, and the council has instructed the city attorney to look after him. Some time ago Dowdy filed the bond and petition for a li- censo, and the old council granted him one. On complaint of Mr, Dohany, however, an injunction was secured against Recorder Burke preventing him from issuing the license. Dowdy appeared and tendered the cash, but the recorder refused to receive it. Then Dowdy was arrested for selling without a license. Mr. Aylesworth was his attorney, and claimed that the council, by granting the license, was estopped from prosecuting him, and while pressing this theory the case was continued, In the meantime Dowdy was arrested and put in jail on account ot an unpaid fine for vi olation of United States revenue law. The license case was lost sight of , and there the matter stands. It is thought that before a case can action gnnelngf him a license, and that in this way only can the matter be unsnarled, and the saloon closed up.
