The Romance of & Poor Young Man and His Girl-Bride. Chicago Herald That tho course of true love never did under any circumstancos run smooth is universally conceded; yet ench new demonstration of the fact possessca an intereat all its own. The latest caso in point was developed yes- terday. Pierre Woydeman, the hero of the romance, is & Fronchman, twenty-four years of age. Morecover he is a crip- ple, & beggar, and the manipulator of a heand-organ. Marie Derocke, the heroiue, was a Bolgian maiden sixteen yoars of age, the daughtor of Thomas Derocke. Prerre loved Mario with all the devotion of his passion- ate soul, and wooed her with all the eloquence of his tonguo and melody of his organ. Marie caught on. They laid the case before tho old folks and encountered thoir firat obstacle, The old folks objected to the mateh. However, Pierre and Marie swore eternal fidelity and resolved to got married at the irst opportunity, The opportunity arrived Wednosday after- noon and Marie becamo Madame Waeydemon, Justice DeMars doing the honors. The ceremony over, the happy young pair proceeded to a tenement, whero Picrro had rented apartments, and entered upon the enjoyment of their honeymoon. They “were sing ing as a duet, to the accompaniment of the organ, the well-known refrain, He was a little tin soldier, ‘mpah! One little log had he, m? She was a littlo ballet-dancer, Umpah! True unto him was she, Um! when Marie's parents appearcd and tried to induce her to return to them. The petitions and remonstrances of the old couple led to a general row, which necessitated the interference of the police, who escorted the entiro party to the West Madison Street Sta- tion. Yesterday morning all were brought before Justice Walsh, Mr. and Mrs. Derocke stated their case and were diecharged, but Pierro and Marie wero held over until to-day. Meanwhile, an investigation 18 in progress, Mr. Derocke claims that his daugh- ter is only sixteen years old, and that the marriage license could only have been procured by fraud or perjury, and inquiry at the county clork’s office indicates tha* such is really the case. Karly on Wednesdny Piorre and Mario applied for a _license, but wore refused because Mario =aid she was only seventeen ycars of age. They went away, but shortly after- wards returned with Justice DeMar's clerk, who presented a note from the justico stating that the girl was eigh- |} teen years of age. Again they were refused, and again they departed. Still later thoy appeared at the coun- ter for the third time. This time they were accompanied .by Justice DeMars himself, who swore that the girl was over eighteen years old. On his aflidavit, which is on file, the tho license was issuod, and the justice subsequently performed the =~ cere- mony. Mr. Derocko threatens to prosecute | 3 Justice DeMars for perjury. It is said that the justice hal no actual knowledge of the case, but made his affidavit on the statement of u third party. The Freight (Car of the Future, A Troy (N. Y.) dispatch in the Now York World of the 2lst says: A number of capitalists from New York and other parts of the country, in company with representatives of the leading railronds and the Car-builders’ b associations of the United States and Canada, visited the Gilbert & Bush car works at Green Island, opposite that city, on that day, and inspected a dozen freight cars just comploted there for the United States Tube Rolling Stock company. Six of the cars are for broad-gaugoe roads and i are for narrow- gauge taacks. The truss-work is built of iron tubes, in which are iron rods, and iron replaces every part of the wood-work now in the construc. tion of the truss-work of cars, The cars are between 2,000 and 3,000 pounds lighter than the ordinary freight car. A thorough inspection was made of tho new cars by W, F. Griflith, freight agont of the Penn. sylvania railroad; David Hoyt, master car builder of the New York Central; R. C. Blackhall, superintendent of machinery of the Delaware & Hudson; J. E. Doran, master car builder of the Boston & Albany; C. A. Smith, of New York, master car builder went to work for a farmer owning considerablo land about there. The farmer had & daughter fifteen yoas old who axhibited much affection for Dunlap aftor ho becama mequaintod with the family, He had labored in dustriously for two years when ho asked the farmer's consent to wod his daughter, which the old gentlewan refused to grant becauso he was poor, and dismissed Dunlap from hiesorvice fearful that the two would contrivom | matrimonial alliance on the sly. Dun lap loft tho farm, however, provic informing tho wirl that he would 10- | main true to her wherever he ehancod to ream, and would return to her in dus time snd make her father sorry for his atubborn | $2 reply. He went to Wyoming tern tory almost penniless and alone. Ho sccured a situation on a stago line thero and acted 1 the capacity of driver. M saved his oaruings, and at the expiration of five ars ho purchased a half interest in tho busi ness, making money rapid Two yeara ago ‘rom a paying ilation he realized €0,000, which, with his incomo and bank account, made him wealthy and influential. Last week he returned here, and, hiring a con- veyanco, drove to the homo of his first love, and on the following day married her, aftor o soparation of ton years The old man waas delichted to aco Dunlap, and gave him his daugh- ter Mary with o prayerful wish that thdy would be happy together, Mr, and Mrs. Dunlap wiil go to Wyoming next weok, and expect to make it their fature home.
