Y., under charge of United States officers, where he will enter upon a life sentence 4: the pen- itentiary at that place. Ross was tle saflor who killed his messmate at Yo- kohams, Japsu. He was tried by the United States consul and sentenced to be hanged, but through the interces- sion of influentisl parties the sentence was commuted to imprisonment for life. As he hailed from New York, It became necessary to send him to that state. He left Japan March 2d, and srrived in Chicago last night.
