Christiancy, in further con- versation yesterday on the subject of her alleged publshed letters, said that when shespoke of the published letters to the Washington reporter Tuesday she had not read thom, nor did she do so until Tuesday afternoon. She wished to say that not one of theso published letters was written by her. They were base, malicious for- geries, and evidently were gotten up to play their pirt in this case. A large number of executive com- munications, the sscamulation of the rocess, were latd before the senate fm- medistely after the reading of the journal. - Among them was a deferred report on the removal of the Ponca Indians, on which Mr. Dawes gave notice that ho wonld make a speech when the report shall have been printed. The moraing hour was con- sumed in the contest. The senate finally took up the bill for the relief of Halidsy, by a vote of 34t020. This bill, which has been before congrees for nino years, pro- poses to pay the claimant $336 749 on acoount of his contract for carrying mails, and for losses eustained by baving carried mail on_a different route from the one specified in his contract, and in eatisfaction for prop- erty taken and used by United States troops during hostilities with the In- dians. Lincoln, manfacturer of boots and shoes, his' wife, and_their faithful dog Jesk, Ths dog discov- ered the fire, broke his chain and run- ning to the door where Mr. and_Mrs. Lincoln wero asleep, yelped and vowled futiously, fually bursting the door open. The ticket agents of the railroads centering at Chicago have notified the eastern roads that henceforth the full passenger rates will be demanded on all emigrant and second class business fron the seaboard. There was a ramor in Carson, Nev., {:mrd-y that the election of Mr. 'air was to be contested jointly by Benator Sharon and Adolph Sutro, and that the latter was on his way from San Francisco on a special train, and had §100,000 of Sharon's money to put fato the fight. Alonz> Nast, colored, of Royal Oak, Michigan, while returning from De- troit yesterday, was struck and se- verely injared by passenger train. His horse was killed and his wagon smashed. Col. A caucus to select a candidate for United States senator will bo_held next Taesday evening, at Harrisburg, Pa. In the first place there waa the East Madison street fire, at 4 a. m., loss about $35,000, from which Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln barely escapsd being budly burned and lacerated. Then came the Stato street fire, in running to which John Hawley, firo- man, lost hie life. An unknown man about 40 years old was killed on the Michigan Central road, at Kensington; another unidentified man hanged him- self in a shed on Washington street; Peter Callahan fell on the sidewalk and received injuries from which he died; Patrick Ross, shot in Sunds; 5 row, dled in the morning: Olif Car son was struck by a Michigan South- ern traia and reported killed, but af- + rwards proved only threeribs broken; Mr». Mr. Frye's supporters do not claim & ma- jority, but assert that an allowance of fifteen should be made in Mr. Hale's count, and that they have & fair show for a majority on some of the latter ballots.
