Shot to be Manufactured of Iron Instead of Lead. The Woods are Full of Shot Towers. No eooner does Omsha make & move in some mew enterprise than Council Bluffs follows suit, and the latest is in the matter of a shot tower tobe built on grounds already pur- chased, near the government corral. Our suburban neighbor will not, however, manufacture ordinary lead shot. Byno means. She getsup & a new and improved kind of her own. The Nonpareil of to-dsy states the situation as follows: The probabilities are that Council Bloffs will, at no far distaut day, be the headquarters for the manufacture Tudiaospolis, and has been gratified to see her grestly improved by the care she received. Mr. Sculley will enter the six daya go-as-you-please race, to occur in New York the last of next month for the O'Leary belt, and he thinks his pres- ent week will just put him in good training for such a contest. He isa powerfully built man and appears to have an iron constitution. Seth Thomas, the Nebraska man, who rocently walked in Council Bluffs against an Towa man, the two represeuting the adjoining states, s #aid to be the man who, about three vears ago, walked against Bob Math- ewsen, in Lincoln, when he was known s Willam Lan- dakers. At that time time Lan- dakers beat Mathewson and it was be- lievod that it was aput-up jobasabout $10,000 was lost by the betting men of tae Capital on Bob. The two went away togethef to Landakers old home iu Tllinois, where the same game was played cxcept that Mathewson won in this instance, a large amount *| of money changing haude, a5 before. A citizen of Humboldt, Nebraska, feom whom we lesrn these bits of his- tory, says that Thomas came to Hum- boldt during the summer, agd that about the same timo » man supposed tobe bis partner settled ata emall town not far off, and the twc subse- quently cstablished extremely inti- mate rolations. The Humbolt men who were backing Thomas felt that perhaps they were slightly taken in in the'matter. Norunner at tho Depot. o of a shot that is caloulrted to revolu- tionize the world in the shot business. For some time past, four industrions men, of whom two are citizens of Oouncil Bluffs, Messts. A. D. Walker and Geo. K. Beard; have been quietly experienting o a shot dropped from irdn, and have ‘made such fine | togress withtheir ex- periments an’ csts that they have applied for " teceived a patent for the manufact: to of dron shot,” something new in the sfiot tins. The inventoes claim that the advantages of the iron over the leaden shet are numerous and importent, among which are deeper penetration, non- flattening, and they will not foula gun. They also claim that the ma- chinery necessary to the manufacture of this now style of shot Is rimple and inexponsive, and that in building a factory for their maaufacture no tower is necessary. Already thin invention has caused a great furore among shot mikets and sportsmen all over the country, and the inventors are constantly in re- ceipt of letters making inquiries ro- garding their invention and whether or not they are anxious to dispsse of the patent. But the two gentlemen living in this city are desirous of start- iog an extensive factory in Council Blufls, considering this #s good & point as any. They are now ready to go to work, and de- sire to raise a stock company to build and engage extensively in the manu- facture of the iron shot in this city. Mr. Walker is willing to invest $2,000 in stock in addition to his being one of the patentoes, which is certainly a guarantee that ho realizes that there is comething in the invention that work will bring out.
