Pool was sent up for fatally shooting a wan named Casein abagnio near the comei of Tenth and Capitol avenue over ten years ago His escape was made on_ the 17th of April, 1871, at the time the insane arylum burned down. There are many now here who will remember the circumstances, and that during the conflagration eleven convicts in the penitentiary took advantsge of the excitement ircident to the ccea- ston, aud mansged to escape, Pocle being charged with being the ring- leader. Tt was believed at the time that the set fire to the asylum themselves, and as the insurance companics had over §80,000 to pay, end thought there was something rotten in the stafe of Den- mark, they put detectives on the track of the fugitives, but although several times within an ace cf retaking them the prioners always got away in the nick of time, and in the ten years that have elapsed since not one of them has ever been captured.
