The Bloody Barber of Omaha and His Game of Hide and Seek. Fe Goes Back to the Peniten tiary for Life. From s gentleman who came up from Lincoloon thenoontrainTuesdsy we learn that Samuel Pool, who was sentenced to the penitentiary for life from this city, but subsequently cs- caped has in all prebability been re- captured and will now havea chance to serve out his unexpired term. Pool was sent up for fatally shootinga man named Case in abagnio near the comner of Tenth and Capitol avenue over ten years ago His escape was made on the 17th of April, 1871, at the time the insave asylum burned down. There many now here who will remember. the circumstances, and that during the conflagration eleven convicts in the penitentiary took advantege of the excitement incident to the occa- ston, and managed to escape, Po being charged with being the ri leader. It was believed the time that the set fire to the asylum themselves, and as the insurance companies had over §80,000 to pay, end thought there was something rotten in the state of Den- mark, they put detectives on the track of the fugitives, but although several times within an ace cf retaking them the pritoners always got away in the nick of time, and in the ten ycars that have elapsed since not one of them has ever been captured. At one time they had a woman Pool had kept, on the point of giving the whole crowd away and making some startling dis- closures, but she was found soon after, dead in her bed, poisoned by some of th gang. Pool, who was u barber by trade, when in this city, is, 1t seems, the first to retuen to his Eage, if there is not a mistake in the 1dentity of the man captured, and the following from to-dag’s Journal would indicate that thero is no mistake: WVouday a man avswerivg the de* scription of Pool'to a dot was brous to Lircoln from Pierce City, Mo, near the Arkansas line, and taken out to the penitentiary. When acrested in Missouri he was at werk in & bar- ber shop, under the namo of Jubn Sbaney, and while an inmate of the prison here he was the barber of the inst tntion, are at convicts His description in every respech; height, shape, size, etc., answers the description found in the descriptive roll of the prison, even to ared blood streak in o eye. But the man says he was vever in Nebraska befure in his life. After Captain Nobes had la tored with him an hour or two in o cresy - examination, he summoned Black Hawk, an Otoe Indian, who cannot speak a word of English, and who has been a cenvict in the prison for many yeors, and Whitew e, another Tudian, who speaks Enelish fluently, to act as interproter. With- out telling the Indians what he want ed of them, he took them into the re- eeption room where the supposed Pool Mr. Notes thon acked Whitewater to propound the follow- i Hawk, and was seatel. puestions to Black @ him tho answers: Nobes—Who is thzt man? B. H.—Don’t know his name. ue:d to be here nine or ten years § Mober—How did he get away] B. H.—Esciped with others during the burnivg of the asylum, Nobes— Has ne changed in appear- ance, much! B. H.—Not much; his heir seems to be darker. Nobes—*‘But his hairnow is cov- ered with oil—take a good look him.” The man was ordered to arice, when the Indian examined him from top to bottom, and declared he was the man who escaped. When Mr. Nobes called the atten- tion of the hair was oiled and therefore much darker than it otherwise would be, the man for the first time gave himself away by erying in an excited manner, “I object to that!" but he quickly re covered himself and , “that’s all right, go on.” Mr. Nobes, as a matter of cours koows nottiing about the man, and car only identify him so far as he answers the description in the descriptive rcll, and tho photograph which is in the rogues’ gallery, and we understand the wardeu says the resemblanca is strik- ing, He You seek pleasure, you will find it at Good Templar Social this evenirg Gen.
