Sr. Louts, Ootober 8, 4. p, m.—The condition of Joe Emmett is slightly improved to-day. The principal diffi- cnll{ he experiences now is from his weak stomach, which will hold no food. Tho physician says it is wholly the results of overdoses or stimulants. The attending phisician will not allow him to leave his room for at lesst ten days yet. He oxpresses himself as confident that ho will bring him through safely. If he coatinues to drink, however, he will be thrown back in the same old rut again. WasHINGTON, Ootober 9, 1a. m.— The commissioner of Indian affaias has received dispatches from Cedar Creek and Los Pinos agency, Colo- rado, relsting to the recent troubles | with the Utes, growing out of the murder of the son of Chief Cha- Darisux by a teamster. The Utes were all tn arme, and were determined to kill the murderer, but citizens of Ce- | dar Creek interfered, and after extra- ordinary cxertions on their part, the H. The captors demanded $1,000 for the release of both prisoner and hotse, but Mr. Eller said he only wanted the horse, and would give the reward of- fered for roturning the horse to Fair- mont, if they would return him the horse on the other side of the Nebras- ka lino; that the man was wanted by the state of Nebraska, and woold be taken by requisition, unless he enter- ed Nebraska voluntarily. This plan sccmed to please the prisoner, who was none other than Jeff Wells, but his captors would not let him go un- Tess they were paid a ransom. Nego- tiations and wranglings occupled most of the night. Finally the ransom was settled, aud Jeff Wells voluntarily ac- companied his old_neighbcra back to Fairmont, from whence he was sent to Lincoln for safe keeping till the time of trial. Jay.
