For ssl ', Ish & Mcabon, 1321 Farnh: t. 230 1m The following is & report of the Gist day's attendsnce in the public eshools and the number of seats: LOST ON THE FLATS, A Deadwood Gambler and an Omaha 8porting Woman in Trouble, They Take & Reckless Ride on the Band lots. Mondsy afternoon a young, light- 1y built, rather good-looking man, went to ove of Jim Stephenson's livery stables and hired a rig, payiog for it in advance and exhibiting st the same time s rather healthy looking roll of greenbacks. He sald he was from Deadwood and that he was boarding at the Elkhorn house. He subsequently took with him for the drive a woman from one of the Twellth stret houses and the two it seems went off on aregular tear. About 7 o'clock s man reported at the stable that he had seen the outfit and that both parties were drunk, and thereup- .on a man was sent on horseback to look for the perties snd take oure of the property. The search, however, was unavailing and nothing more was seen or heard of them until this morning af- ter daylight, when the horse walked into the stable minus buggy sod harness. but_well goated -with mad d Tooking as if he, too, had joined in the carouse. Charles Hallo, tho blok watchman on Sixteenth street, had very lste in the night met the woman out near the bridgs. She was ia & condition not endoreed by eminent temperance apos- tles, and his services were required to get ber safely home. She was called on by ths stebleman this moraing, but was unable to give sny sccount of the ride or the where- abouts of her late- partmer. She thonght they bhad been out on the prairie south of the park. Inquiry at the Northwestern depot dlscovered the fact that the hrracss had been found covered with mud and cut all to pleces, in thet neighborhnod, and finally the trail of the buggy was struck and followed _ through “the weeds ontints the sand lots, north of the city. Here the mark of wheels was followed round and round until at last it led up to a pond, in the midst of which the vehiclo itself was discovered, with one sbaft broken ard otherwise dumaged. From the sp- pearancs of things it looked as if the twe in their drunken ride had made the circuit of the sand lots seversal times by starlizht, and this the girl took for the prairiz. At length they struck the pond, in which the poor horse must have stood until asylight this morning, when his driver prob- ably cut him loore and made his exit from the locality by an umbrageous route. BStephenson's men are after bim red hot and have put the pelice on his track. The demages to the out- fit hired st the stable, are put at fifty dollars, to say nothing of the crueliy tothe animal. How or where the woman got away is not stated, but it isa wonder that both parties hadn’t been drowned. PaxcING. There are rumors of interesting times again to ocour in the city cour- cil. Our reporter waa ioforned by © 10 0f the members Tucsdsy thatHon. Levi J. Kennard, one of the members mined to resign. The cause of this determination is said to be the expen- ditures made by that body during the present fiscal year, which have, it is claimed, already exheusted nearly all the money at their command. It is also snid that President Boyd and Councilman Labagh will both resignif any further expenditures are made. About seven-eighths of the annual levy is required to pay the running ex- penses of the city, leaving but one- eights for repairs of streets, cross walke, etc., and that amourt has al- ready been appropristed.
