Tt will be remem- bered that for some distance the road | ronsalong by South Omaha creek, | filled with running water, and at one | poiut a barn juts out into the rosd so | a8 to hide the view for a little distance, The owaer of this barn has a dog | which has been taught to chase stray snimals, and occasionally runs after | passing teams for its own amusement. Mr. Chris. Hartman had been out g his father, in Hartman's addi- tion, and was on his way home, accom- | panied only by his little four year old | left. The horse he was driving was a very valusble animal, one for which he would have taken $300 and was =0 gentle that any lady could drive him with safely. As Mr, Hartman drove up to the barn the dog {ran out, raising 8 cloud |of dust and eprang at the horso's note. The horse plunged nd the dog aprang st him sgsin. This time he kicked and ss the dog fol- lowed him slternately plunged and kicked, Buta few feet in front, Mr. | Hartman saw the oreek full of water | pen before hin, at the foot of a bank perhaps ten feet high and the horse made straight for this. At first his driverendeavored to control him,but it became _ovident hecould not do his boy. He eeized him by the front | of his dress and lifted him up to drop him out behind, but at that moment the outfit was precipitated over the bank into the creck, which was but six or eight feet wide. The horse fell underneath, Mr. Hartman and the boy on top of thehorse and the half demolished buggy on top of all. Chris. says that as they fell he cave up and expected both woald be killed, but he continued to hold the child up by hia clothes, and this broke the fall and the boy escaped with a alight bruise on theleg. Mr. Eartman was worse hurt. Hedoes not remember how he got out, but he put the fboy out on the bauk and the latter exclaimed, “Papa, are you hurt] I've got the duster?” Sure enough, he had hung on to the lap-robe. His father clambered to the bank and fellallina heap. He thought both legs were broken and his bedy was bruised and sore all over, while hisright wrist was broken or sprained, Assistance soon came, snd it was {iend that no bones were broken, and where he was found by our reporter yesterday morning, coufined to his bed, that and the buggy was rapidly being | wrecked, his firat thought was 10 save | The Gallant Reecuers. In attempting to atep from a barge into the small boat they tipped the latter to one side and in 8 moment more were atrugglivg in water fifteen feet deep and the color of well creamed coffee, They had the the presence of mind to seize the ropes and sustain them: selves for the moment although they were helplees to extricate themselves from the perilous position. At this juncture Mike Meaney ar- rived, and not to be outdone in bravery he plunged into the water to retcue a black-aud-tan dog owned by | the white woman, He dove to the bottom and pulled it out, after it had suck for the seventh and last time. McCORMICK. 1614t A Dangerous Wound. Last evening, sbout 10 o'clock, W, Baldauf, clerk of the American house, who was lightly intoxicated at the time, thrust his arm through a window, the glass of which inflicted a severe wound on his left arm, between the elbow and wrist. The blacd flowed profusely, and Dr. A. S. Pen- dery being summoned it was found that an artery had been severed. The injury received the proper at- tention and the man was somewhat relieved, but the loss of blood it is said, was such that his recovery is doubfiul. —Jobn E.
