A Novel and Useful Invention. At the Western Union Telegraph officeSaturday morning we noticed a very novel and useful new inven- tion in the shape of a “ type-wri- ting” machine, which, it is predict- ed, will very likely supersede the use of the pen, when any great amount of rapid, accurate, and plain writing is necessary. The ma- chine occupies but a small space, not morethan an ordinary sewing ma- chine, and does not cost any more, the price being only $125. It is worked by means of a key- board, which is placed in front, something like that of a piano. ‘There are forty keys, representing the capital letters of the alphabet, the numerals, and the punctuation marks. As each key is touched with the finger, the attached letter flies up and strikes against an inked ribbon and makes the impression on the paper, and as each letter is printed the paper is moved along by the machinery to give room for the following letter. Witn a half day’s practice a person can operate it as fast as any one can ordmarily write, and in a few days the opera- torwould find hi nselfable to work it much faster than a rapid penman can write. This machine, it ap- pears to us, is destined to be brought into as general useas the sewing wmachine. All the fa- vorites will appear nightly—Joe Purdy, Hank, the Mason, Charlie time taken our share in its_prosperi- ty and adversity, buton thisaceount never felt called upon to placard our name, nor advertise what we, in our humble way, have done eith- er for the “Republican party,” or our “Scandinavian countrymen.” And, ifin this thirteen years, T once accepted an honorable position that “Copenhagen” says that “business men can’tafford to accept because it don’t pay,” how great then can be my debt to “Mr. Copenhagen” or the Republican parly? And if on this account I have received more than my “share of honors” I am willing to donate some of the shares to “Copenhagen,” provided they will not sit too loose or make him dizzy-headed! Finally, the charge that I advise anyone to desert the Republican party, ‘Mr. Copenhagen’ cannot yet prove; and what tiie article in the Herald complains of is a matter that men who are better posted than #Copenhagen” fully understand. Accidents] Death from Ce ‘Handling & Revolve: A man named Edward Douscher, employed on the farm of Abraham Dennis, near Elkhorn bridge, came to his death Thursday night, while under the influence of liquor, by the careless handling of a revolver. He had been to Colfax county to see about his homestead, which he im- agined some one was trying to get away from him, and on his return he tarried in Fremont long enough to become intoxicated. Daring the night he arose from his bed, think- ing still of the persons who he sup- posed was attempting to beat him out of his homestead, and flourish- ing his revolver and shouting defi- ance to them, the weapon went off, hitting him under theright eye and killing him instantly. That through all the dull season just passed, when other dry goods stores were empty and clerks asleep, Bushman’s dry goods store has always been as crowded as ever ? | Why is it that old merchants are complaining bitterly, and are mov- ing away ? Because Bushman sells goods as cheap in OMAHA AS THEY AF OLD IN NEW 1ORK CITY AT RETAIL. Because Bushman’s prices atretail in many goods are less than the usual wholesale prices. And last, but not least, beeause the people have found out for themselves that a child can buy as cheap and as safely as the most experienced buy- er, and that is our aim to make our store the most reliable place of busi- ness In this great new northwest.
