Considerable excitement was caused among the passengers, some of whom thought it was & stone that bad been thrown through the window, but no stone could be found, it was finally unan- imously sgreed tbat it was a bullet. —The ladies of Vesta Chapter Eastern Star, gave a basket picnic at Hanscom Park Friday after- noon -and evening, which in every Tespect proved a happy social affalr. During the aflernoon the picnickers amused themselves in various ways beneath the shady trees, and enjoyed their well filled Junch baskets. In the evening beginning at half past seven o’clock, dancing on the platform was the attraction. The music by Hoffman’s band was excellent. At about balf past ten o'clock an elegant lunch, sapplied from the baskets of the picnickers was spread upon the tabies, and all were invited to par- ticipate. The party continued till ‘midnight, when all took their de- for mome, heariily satis-. fied with the day’s entertainment. The transportation wis obained from Stephenson, who furnished-a four-horse team and his big tra~sfex wagon—a relic of the early days— capable of holding farty persons. The question was finglly put, as to whether the report should be adopted. Tbe report was adopied. A commitee of three on perma- nent organization was appointed, on motion, as follows: ~ Patrick O’Hawes, J. H. Lacey, and Lewis Brown. Some of the Third Ward dele- gation, neaded by Henry Gray, left the convention on account of Lee being ruled out. Mr. J. Presson hoped some one would call for reconsideration.
