In action the battery is assigned a lo- n and definlte enemy territory te with often objectives such as s, dugouts, ammunition dumps and es to demolish. The battery eom- r goes forward with the advance detall, selects and prepares the location for the battery. Usually advanced posi- tions are occupied at night and camou- flaged if in the open. The camouflage is designed to screen the battery position from tie enemy and prevent airplane ob- servatioh. Observation details with in- struments are sent out to observe targets and report the effect of fire. The com- munication detail is respomsible for the proper laying of telephons wires between the observation posts, gun positions, bat- tery commander’s station and echelon, which is the position taken by the battery reserve, Training during the next six months in preparation for the summer camp will be intensive in order that the various details | may be proficient in their duties. The observation detail’s instruction will cover the use of compNes, map reading, sketch- ing and use of range finding instru- ments. The communication detail must understand the laying of telephone wites, use of the field service telephone and switchboard, the buzzer and visual sig- naling. The gun sectiéns, each under a ser- geant, who ig chief of section, consist of 13 men and the corporal, who is gunmer., There are four gun sections in each bat- tery.
