‘That Norwich baseball fans will have a chance to see the Philadelphia Athletics i mction in this city was assured Wed- 1esdiy when Manager John A. Holland of the local Knights of Columbus team received a letter from Connie Mack stat- ing that his bovs would play in Norwich on Sunday, Sept. 26th. The Athletics will play their last series with the Red Sox in Boston on Sept. 23, 24 and 25, and will come to Norwich on the 26th. This is the first time in Wany years that any team of the big leagues has played in this city. The following was the letter received from Conmnie Mack: John A. Holland, Norwich, Conn. Tiear Sir: 1leplying to yours of the 15th, find that our club will be in Boston on Sept. 25th, and that we could play you in Norwich on Sept. 26th. Let me know if this would be satisfactory. Would like to play on account of Danny Mufphy, who has been a great help to me. Sincerely yours, CONNIE MACK. Norwich is Danny Murphy's home town and for many years since Danny left Nor- wich 1o play with the Athletics local fans have always had a warm spot in their hearts for the Quaker City boys. Danny Murphy in writing to Manager Holland states that he will be in the lineup, as he has been playing in all the exhibition games that the team has participated in. He says he is going strong and expresses he wish to play once more in Norwich Manager Holland is trying to secure tie services of Chief Bender to pitch for the ocal boys in this game. The Chief was also an old teammate of Danny Murphy ! wnd his career has always been followed with interest by local peonle. By the time the Athletics appear' nere the local team should be at their stronges(, as are steadily improving as by. : For this coming Sunday the South Manchester team, considered the fastest semi-pro team in the state, will be the attraction. The local team will have Drost in the box for them. and after the fine work he did against the Rosebuds in the 13-inning tie this week’s game should be worth seeing.
