Jacobs who died in Bridgeport June 10, was brought to this city Wednesday af- ternoon and taken to Nathan Hale cemetery; South Coventry, for burial by Undertaker J. M. Shepard. A com- mittal service *was held at the grave, Rev. H. C. Beebe officiating. Mrs. Eduilda Lavallee. The funeral of Mrs. Eduilda Laval- lee was held from the home at 18 La- ayette street Wednesday morning at 45 o'clock, followed by requiem high mass at St. Mary's church at 9 o- clock, celebrated by the pastor, Rev. J. J. Papillon. The bearers were Jo- seph Cardinal, Joseph Beaulieu, Jo- seph Simoneau and Fred Lord. Bur- jal was in St. Joseph's cemetery. Motoreyclists’ Gypsy Tour Plans A number of local motorcyclists are = to participate in the Nation- ypsy Tour which takes place all over the country on June 16 and 17. The local riders are toeave this city at 8 oclock Saturda¥ and proceed 1o Providence by way of Putnam. They Jeave the Rhode lsland capital at 1 P. m. for Boston and return by way of Worcester the following day, com- mencing at 10 a. m. They are due to arrive here at § o'clock Sunday. In the event of stormy weather the tour will be cut to half distance and be made in one day instead of two. Willlam Weeks has been selected as local tour manager, with Herbert pointed, as few if any f the present volunteer force have signified their intentions of signing over under the new rulings. Going to France Soon. Word has been received from Harry Noel, a local athlete who recently en- listed in the Rhode Island State Hos- pital Corps that he expects-to ieave with his and other detachments. for France within a short time. Camp Ground Mail Service Uncertain. It is uncertain whether or not there will be a special mail carrier service at the Willimantic Camp Ground this year as formerly, because of the fact that there will not be a speeial pro- gramme of services there. In years past one of .the substituts carriers of the local office has carried on this work during July and August. Bound to Enlist. Among the recent enlistments for the United States naval training sta- tion at Hartford was that of Frederick R. Laramee of this city who enrolled as a carpenter's mate. Laramee_ pre- viously made application to Post- master John O'Rourke but had to be turned down because he was not of the required age. After his enlist- ment papers had been signea by his father the youmg man proceeded to Hartford and took the required phy- sical examination. Rifles for Home Guard. The members of the local Home Guard held -their first drill with their new rifies Tuesday evening at the state armory. They were first given a short talk on the use of the arms Captain Frank P. Fenton and then ven instruction in the manual of arms and put through marcning movements, to both of which _they adapted themselves in fine shape. Captain TFenton, Lieutenants ‘Harry The raception given the Little Light Bearers by the ladies of the Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist church Tuesday was a most enjoy- able affalr. An excellent luncheon was served. There were about twen- ty present. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE Named in Connection With Prepara- tions for Red Cross Week at Meet- ing Addressed by Col. Charles Bige- low. A meeting to inaugurate prepara- tions for Red Cross week was held in the Chamber of Commerce rooms Wednesday evening. The speaker was Col. Charles Bigelow of New Haven, who has first-hand knowledge of con- ditions prevailing across the sea, as he has epent much of his time during the past two years in England. Other speakers were Rev. Vernon W. Cooke, Secretary §. B. Doolittle of the Y. M. C. A., First Selectman Brnest B. Chesbro, W. Yorris, Attorney E. Frank Bugbee and General Kaley. The last named said that the American Thread company, which he represents, would gladly back up whatever the people of Willimantic did in the matter and he hoped the city would do more than its share. There was an attendance of only about 30 at the meeting. accounted for by the fact that it was not known Colonel Bigelow was fo come here un- til 5 o'clock in the afternoon. A per- sonal canvass of the business men of the city was then taken by some of the members of the Red Cross commit- tee. It is the intention now to hold another public meeting_either in the town hall or in the Y. M. C. A change in the working schedule of the day and night switching crews in the local vard of the New Haven Taliroad went into effect this week.
