Another radical change in the exist- ing Sunday laws ‘of Connecticut was recommended to the eral Assem- bly. today when the 3 commit- tee reported to the house a bill to per- mit the sale on Sunday of milk, bak- ery products, ice, ice cream, confec- tionery, non-alcoholic beverages, to- bacco and tobacconists’ supplies, news- papers and periodicals. Real Estate Afi-:‘\mlnu. According to an act ed, “no at- tachment of real estate shall continue in force as a lien for a longer period thay fifteen years after ~the date thereof, unless within said period, the action in which such attachment was made shall have been prosecuted to effect and a judgment lien filed ac- cording to law. This act shall not af- fect -attachments now on court dock- ets. Housatonic Power Company. The act“to amend the charter of the Housatonic Power company, to trans- fer to the Rocky River Power com- pany, and then to change the name to The ~ Connecticut Light and Power company. This company then to have the right to acquire other similar properties. Jr. Talcott of the com- mittes on incorporations explained the bill in_cetail and claimed the result would be cheaper power and light. Mr. Hall_of Milford, spoke in favor of the Bill. Mr. Corbett, of Hartford, spoke in opposition to tae bl He asked how muth territory was covered by the charter. Mr. Talcott said there was no limit as to territory, but this matter was up_to the public utilities commission. Mr. Corbett asked i this company could build dams in any river in the state. Mr. Talcott said it would with the proper approval. Mr. Corbett said that was broad legisla- ture and it would be well for legisla- tors to keep an eye on this sort of legislation. Mr. Candee, of Norwalk, asked if this comsany could coma into Nor walk and oppose the municipal plant. Mr. Taleott said that could only be done by agreement. Mr. .Averill of Washington said that under the charter, this new company would enjoy the privileges of the two' companies taken over. The only new power to.the new company is the right to construct and maintain steam plants. - Mr. Marron of Derby objected to chartering a company that does not specify the location of dams, or power and some time limit noted. In the section he represented neglect on the part of the existing company had held up state highway work. Mr. Tal- cott said the gentleman from Derby need have no fear of the company in- terfering with highway progress. Mr. Marron said the bill was too broad and too indefinite to suit his constitu- ency. Mr. Hall of New Melfird said there was a million dollar plant in course of construction and another was com- ing that would cost $3,000,000. He wanted to see the power of the Hou- satonic valley developed which was essential to industrial success. The bill was passed. A motion to reconsider by Mr. Talcott prevailed. The house .concurred With the sen- ate in the rejection of these bills: An act which would require school ses- sions of forty weeks a year instead of thirty-six as now: an act that after September 1, 1813, " unless certificate be obtained by that time: and an act which would compel summer schcfls in towns where twenty persons'peti- tioned therefor. ‘The Raccoon Se: An act concerning the taking of rac- coons was ed on _concurrence with the senate, which woull repeal the present law in regard to the close season. Tt was explained that a dub- stitute bill would be presented which provided for shortening the close sea- son. Waterbury Normal School. On motion of Air, Healey of Wa- terbury, the house concurred with the senate in referring the bill to provide, for a' normal school’ in Waterbury; to. the committee ‘en appropriations. Barbers and Embalmer: The bills to abolish the board of xaminers of barbers and the board of xaminers of embatmers were reported unfavorably.
