Recent improvements in the manner of transporting shad eggs may make it unnecessary to use a government car, but rather an ordinary car specially equipped for the purpose. It will be necessary to keep the eggs in a temperature under 34 degrees. It is proposed to secure the desired tem- E::atnre in the refrigerator car by ping the tanks containing the egss in flannel. “You expect ten million shad egss from California?” “The commissioner of California has told me that he could let us have one hundred million eggs if we needed them to replenish the streams of Con- necticut,” sald Mr. Crampton. Superintendent Crampton said the condition of the lobster industry was causing alarm. There was a falling off last year in the supply of lobsters taken off the New England coast of about 885,000 pounds. The skirts, in pa ticular, with the new blouses of Geor- gette crepe and chiffon, washable satin and striped silks, promise to be ex. ceedingly popular, although the one- plece dress is strongly holding its own. Figured voiles for wear later in the season are in the forefront of favor. An extremely good model in a sult shown yesterday came in black serge und taffeta, the skirt being in Spanish effect, in panels. It was shirred at the waist and the coat had & modishly flaring skirt, bell eleeces and a chic ornament of black and gold at the front. Raisins for Hat Trimming. ‘The demand for hats increases daily, as the season advances. A new model in hunter’s green, turban shape, shown yesterday, was ed with a quill- trimm ing of ribbon and raisins in natural shades. A small mushroom shape in Alice blue had for trimming a wreath of crushed roses in the new maize shade, and a black ribbon bow. Tuscan in a large open shape formed @ striking hat which had facing of old blue ribbon and was coquettishly trim- with one rose on the upper left side and one under the brim. Rose hemp with lisere edge was de- veloped in a pretty hat which had for trimming an Ottoman ribbon bow and & knot of black cherries.
