Slaughter Continues Brisk Throughout State—Soarcity of Lobsters. i . “It is simply shocking to_see_the condition in which wounded deer are found_throughout the state” sald Su- perintendent John M. Crampton of the N ‘Fairfleld, 106; 1148; - Litchfleld, 207; Middlesex, 125; ‘“m- déé‘:éum had tion I % on a conversat 'Monday over the 'phone with George , fish and game commissioner ‘Massachusetts, who lives in Spring- field, on the subject of transporting from fornia. the shad eggs which have been promised by the commis- sioner of that state. Mr. Graham and Mr. Crampton will have a meeting at ,Wwhich the subject will be more thor- oughly discussed. It is barely possi- "ble that Mr. Crampton may find it necessary to make another trip to ‘Washington concerning the matter. Recent improvements in the manner of transporting shad eggs may make it unnecessary to use a government car, but rather an ordinary car specially equipped for the purpose. It will be necessary to keep the eggs in a temperature under 34 degrees. It is proposed to secure the desired tem- E::atnre in the refrigerator car by ping the tanks containing the egss in flannel. “You expect ten million shad egss from California?” “The commissioner of California has told me that he could let us have one hundred million eggs if we needed them to replenish the streams of Con- necticut,” sald Mr. Crampton. Superintendent Crampton said the condition of the lobster industry was causing alarm. There was a falling off last year in the supply of lobsters taken off the New England coast of about 885,000 pounds. He said it had been suggested to hold a convention of those interested in the industry to gee what could be done to save it from destruction, and it was quite possible the convention would be held shortly SPRING AND SUMMER APPAREL What the Stores and Shops Are Show- ing to Supply Fashion’s Demands— Something to Please All Tastes— New Designs in Hats. The showings of spring and summer apparel and millinery will attract the attention of thousands of women to- day, since the moderating temperature is an assurance that warmer weather is really coming Merchants and dealers are ready for the crowds of shoppers, and have in stock a wonderful array of the most advanced models in every line. This is particularly true of suits and coats; from the simple sport suit with its smart pockets and belt to the most dressy silk, crepe or net frock for the most elaborate occasion there is some- thing to please and meet the taste of every intending buyer. Eight-Gored Skirts. Skirts are plain as a rule, but very ; four gores are frequently found, d in many of the choicest of silk the ~ eight-gored ekirts of a of years ago are suggested. every coat is cut with the ; they come in all the favor- ed mannish mixtures, Bolivian cloths, poplins and all the other good spring materials, while the silk coats are in the most elaborate designs.: S One such elegant coat seen at the openings yesterday is of rich radium velvet in a rose shade, its trimming an ostrich feather band in a ‘mole tint. A chomis cloth wrap in sulphur hue was stitched with black and had & natty high collar and big pockets. Near by attention was attracted by a Hague evening wrap in faille, ele- gantly trimmed with deep silk fringe. A fancy plaided chinchilla coat comes ink soft green and white, with effective pin eripes in rose. Separate Skirts and Coats. season’s wardrobe. The skirts, in pa ticular, with the new blouses of Geor- gette crepe and chiffon, washable satin and striped silks, promise to be ex. ceedingly popular, although the one- plece dress is strongly holding its own. New striped linen blouses, with collar and cuffs of white, are liked also, Many of the gowns have some form of tunic or pannier. Figured voiles for wear later in the season are in the forefront of favor. An extremely good model in a sult shown yesterday came in black serge und taffeta, the skirt being in Spanish effect, in panels. It was shirred at the waist and the coat had & modishly flaring skirt, bell eleeces and a chic ornament of black and gold at the front. Raisins for Hat Trimming. ‘The demand for hats increases daily, as the season advances. A new model in hunter’s green, turban shape, shown yesterday, was ed with a quill- trimm ing of ribbon and raisins in natural shades. A small mushroom shape in Alice blue had for trimming a wreath of crushed roses in the new maize shade, and a black ribbon bow. Tuscan in a large open shape formed @ striking hat which had facing of old blue ribbon and was coquettishly trim- with one rose on the upper left side and one under the brim. Rose hemp with lisere edge was de- veloped in a pretty hat which had for trimming an Ottoman ribbon bow and & knot of black cherries. This is the time to choose from the wonderfully full assortments of apparel and headwear. ‘Where all the advanced fashion ideas and modes can found In Honor of Their Patron Saint.
