UNCASVILLE Past Grands Attend Thames Lodge Installation—Prize Cup for Water Carnival—St. Joh Parish Festival. At the installation exercises of Thames lodge, I. O. O. F., held Tues- day night, a party of past grands from New London were present. Among them were Past Grands Austin, Phjl- lips, King and Maxon: Vice Grand Brown, Right Scene Supporter Adams of Mohegan lodge, Past Grands How- ard, Burrows and Slocum and: Vice Grand Coon of Pequot lodge, and 'Wil- liam Bowker of Thames lodge. At the meeting of the Good Cheer Sunshine society, Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Frederick B, Com- stock, there was a large attendance. One new member was voted into the society. The principal business before the meeting was the floral arrange- ments for the bazaar and supper and water carnival, which they will hold. Much interest is expressed in the car- nival. A cup is offered the boat which is most attractively decorated. A pleasant meeting of the Ladies’ Aid society was held at the home of Mrs. Clark Wednesday after- noon. The next meeting will be at the parsonage in two weeks. NORTH STONINGTON Church Activities—Funeral of Mrs. Edward = T. Pitcher—Preston Ideal Club Meets With Postmaster Main, A. L. Townsend was summoned to Dundee, N. Y., last Saturday evening by the serious condition of his father, who had been ill for some time. M: Drury, pastor emeritus. Rev. Mr. Roscoe, father of Mrs. O. D\ Fisher, occupied the pulpit of the Con- gregational church Sunday evening. His discourse was much enjoyed. Funeral of Mrs. Pitcher. Pitcher of Westerly, widow of BEdward T. Pitcher, died at the home of her son-in-law, T. E. Brown, in this village Sunday She was a daughter of Edwin P. and Mary A. (Babcock) Berry. Her early years were passed in Westerly (West Side). Following her marriage in 1866 she lived in this village until 11 years ago, when she moved to Westerly to make a home for her sons, Edward and Earl Pitcher, who had obtained employment in that town. Besides these sons, she leaves three daughters, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. G. A. Thompson of North Stonington and Mrs. Fred K. Swheénck of Westerly. Another daughter, wife of Thomas L. Peabody, died several years ago. The funeral of Mrs. Pitcher was held Wednesday afternoon -and was private, in accordance with her re- quest. The service was conducted by Rev. Lucian Drury. Burial was in Un- jon cemetery, her sons and two sons- in-law being bearers. There were many beautiful flowers. Preston Club Entertained. ‘The Preston City Ideal club met Sat- urday evening at the home of oune of its members, Postmaster Floyd L. Main, of this village. About 25 were pres- ent. Ice cream, cake, lemonade, fruit and confectionery were served by Mrs. Main, mother of the host of the even- ing, during the delightful meeting. Missionary Committee Meets. The missionary committee of the Stonington Union association met on Monday afternoon at the home of one of its members, Rev. Lucian Drury. Besides Mr. Drury, there were present Rev. W. E. Bates and Capt. E. F. Wil- cox, both of Mystic, and Rev, A. L. Tedford of Preston. Misses Phebe and Grace Sheffield are attending the summer normal school at Storrs. Mrs, George W. Tryon, lbrarian of the Wheeler library, is attending the library institute at Storrs. Her place in the local library is taken by Miss Helen 8. Coates. Mrs. D. F. Chapman has been visit- ing relatives in Waterford and Niantie this week. Mrs. T. P. Norman spent Sunday in Presto n.
